I'll cut right to the chase :)
I have one sub (RF HX2) with dual 2ohm voice coils. My sub amp isn't one ohm stable. So I know I can't run the coils parallel. My question is; can I run the two coils in series? That would still be a 2ohm load, right?
I'm used to JL W6's. Those are a walk in the park to wire up compared to this :).
TIA...

isn't it 2.0hm ;):)
if i understood that right...
run 1/2 of the sub to 1/2 the amp
and...
run other 1/2 to the other 1/2
better yet, what amp is it? if you can tell me, i can ask MacGyver how he would hook it up.

NOPE!
if u run it in series it does the opposite, it will be a 4ohm load.

Let's see... The amp I'm using is a Rockford Fosgate "Power" 500a2. I bought it from a buddy of mine, so I'm not 100% sure of the specs. I'm going off 2nd hand info that it's not 1 Ohm stable. If I'm wrong & it is - COOL! On the other hand, if what I'm hearing (from other people) is true, the amp only puts out 250x2 @ 2ohms.
I understand what you're saying Ami (or, at least I think I do ;)). I should hook up on coil to each channel. Can I do that?? I was just assuming that since each channel is a different "side" (ie. right & left) that the sub would sound like doodoo wired up like that. I've never tried it, so I really don't know. Let me know what MacGyver thinks!
Ok, one more... If I run it in series, and that makes it a 4 Ohm load, I should then be able to bridge the amp. Well....duh....with only one pair of wires I suppose I'd have to....

first off..i have to mention..you crack me up. you e-mail me these crazy hybrid questions about compression and what not. something i could never answer  and then post the questions i have answers to on the board ;)
okay, i got an answer for ya:
if you have dual 2ohm woofer...
series woofer then bridge to amp
if you have dual 4ohm woofer...
half woofer to 1 chanel
other half to other chanel of amp.

Agreed, you could also run each channel to each coil, but there's no good reason to if you can bridge the amp (it would probably be putting out the same amount of power either way).

I would put them in series so you get a 4Ohm load, then hook them to the amp on the bridged mode. the 500.2 is 500watts at 4 ohms in bridge mode if I remember right.

ok a power 500 is a mono amp so you cant run a coil off of each channel its only one channel. second you can run at 1ohm all day long with a power 500, wait when you say power 500 is it the new ones that are grey or the old style, the new ones will run 1ohm all day, i run a power 1000 on each of my power hx2 and they both run a 1ohm non stop so it should be fine at 1ohm.
