where are the spark plugs on an LT1? Are there any years that came with a coil pack (may be confused about this) ? How hard is it to change them on a fourth gen?

yes, i would agree. spark plugs are on the cylinder heads

they are pretty hard to change. They are under the exhaust manifold. The far back one on the passenger side is put near impossible. When I was taking my heads off, I had to take the exhaust manifold off before I could get that plug. It is possible to get it with them on though, I just didn't want to spend to much time trying to figure out how to take out an already bad spark plug.

They deffinately arn't easy to change.

Is the LT1 block the same design as my TPI?

I believe the LT1 is a different critter.

I was just saying that because that's where the plugs are on a TPI.

side note, you've got a Monte Carlo with a Northstar???

I'll soon have the engine sitting in the car, I've got two more engine swaps, and some other odd jobs before I can start work on it..

Huh? I am, I'm buying a car with an LT1 and 6 speed. I'm asking how hard it is to change plugs when I don't have..let's see forever because I need it for transportation.

a LT1 is the same basic design as a traditional SBC. It shares alot of the same sensors as a TPI and yes the TPI and LT1 have the same spark plug lay out. The reason the LT1 is harder to change has nothing to do with the engine itself and more to do with the cramped engine bay.

Also, no coil pack was available stock but many people like Dave/drvngstorm have adapted a delteq system using the Northstars coil pack to the LT1.

Tell me there's less plumbing to an LT1, I hate that on the TPI.

There are a few hoses and a couple other things such as A/C related items in the way of changing the passenger side. I have owned a few TPI vettes, can't say I remember there being any more or any less hoses and wires to the car. All fuel injections cars need some of the same items such as vaccuum hoses and air pump hoses and such. Although on TPI the distributor is much much easier to get to. On LT1 its under the water pump and above the crank hub. Making it difficult to change the wires.

by plumbing I actually meant all of that copper piping, or whatever metal it is. All of that stuff, hard to get to the spark plugs on a TPI camaro because of those.

Changing the plugs and wires on an LT1 is NO FUN! I did it a few months ago thinking it would be easy and straight forward. I was wrong, took me a day and a half to finish it up. Driver side was very easy, took about an hour, but the passenger side sucks. No room whatsoever. Tough as shit to get to those. I got 6 & 8 cylinders from the bottom and 2 & 4 from the top. Routing the wires was no fun either.
A friend of a friend told me when I told him this story is that shops loosen the motor mounts and tilt the engine instead of pulling it to do tune-ups.
Have fun.

The EGR has some metal pipping but the biggest pain in the ass plug is number 2. You has to twist your arm behind your back to get the right angle to reach it. Although if your a/c compressor is no longer there like mine. Its much easier. Headers also make a the job a little easier.

Headers is a good idea then, street legal ones though..i know i know, but I don't want my car impounded for doing nothing.

I've got more questions, this one is a bit strange, everyone here who's driven both LT1s and LS1s, how is the responsiveness of the accelerator pedal? Poor comparison but when I stomp on my 240sx pedal, it's embarrassing. So how's the responsiveness in both of those engines?

I definately noticed an increase in throttle response with and CAI and other bolt-ons with an LT1. Hope you don't mind tire smoke when stomping on the throttle either.
