I'm wondering if it is possible to get a diesel engine for a 95 safari. V6 or is a V8 avail. thanks.

No domestic model mid-vans were offered with a diesel. I'm not sure about exports, but I rather doubt it. That doesn't mean that a diesel couldn't be retrofit, however. That would probably include transmission improvements and a rear gear change.

Good Day.

Yes you can put a diesel in a Safari Van. Just need about $7000 USD But if you have the money to do so then here is what I found when I was looking at doing the same thing. I just cannot afford the engine at this time. The amount above includes the bellhousing adapter. You will have to build your own engine mounts and change the torque curve in the transmission. They will even help you design the motor mounts as well from what I got in another email from Mr Cahill.

The following is what was sent to me from Stephen Cahill from OBW (Old British Wheels)

As the hunt goes on for a good diesel engine we offer five different ones.
Starting at 115 HP and going up to 185 HP.
These engines are build in South America and found in Land Rovers (Export market) for the 115 HP.It is known as the 300TDI.
The 2.8 TGV is found in Ford Rangers and the South American version of the Ford F-150.This engine is 135 HP@3800 RPM and 277 fl LB of torque at 1400 RPM.
The Sprint 4.07 is 132 HP and found in the South American Nissan Xterra.
The Sprint 6.07 is found in the South American Version of the Ford F-250.
Please note the Sprint engines have a SAE#3 bellhousing. The transmissions in North American Nissans and some Fords are different.

What we have done is built a set of adapters for the 2.8 and 300TDI engines so they can be bolted up to a collection of GM transmissions.
Auto Version Kit:
Powerglide
TH350
TH400
700R4
4L60/4L60E
4L80E

Manual Version Kit:
(this kit can use a 11" or 12" clutch assembly)
SM465
NP435
NV3500
NV4500
there are more...)
In addition, this kit can be used with any of Advance Adapters' Chevy
V-8 to various transmissions adapter kits. This would allow the 2.8L
TGV to be mated to countless other transmissions.
Please note that not all of the transmissions adaptable to this engine will handle the torque.

An example of fuel mileage with the 2.8 TGV is as follows.
A Ford Ranger Crew cab 4X4 with 5 speed gets 25 to 28 MPG.
YMMV

We had Advance Adapters build the adapters for us as they have been adapting GM engines to vehicles for over 30 years.

http://www.advanceadapters.com/ (http://www.advanceadapters.com/)

If you look at the range of transmissions that this engine will now adapt to it will make your head spin.

Jeep,Scout,Ranger,Bronco II Explorer, Ford full size, GM S10 & S15, GM full size, Dodge, Toyota trucks and Toyota Land Cruisers.
This does not include the cars it will adapt into also.

Makes you think why the big 3 did not offer this.

Please note we only sell them into the USA for off road use only or for use in non EPA Compliant vehicles. Check it out I do think that is pre 1974 vintage.

The 2.8 TGV diesel can be run on biofuel. The engine is used in vehicles up to 7 ton GVW.In stock form. 135 HP and 277 foot LB of torque. They can be cranked up to 170 HP.

This engine has a dry weight of 450 LB.Built tough for the long haul the engine was used in a vehicle in the Lisbon to Dakar rally and placed first in its class and 32nd over, check out www.dakar2006.nl and use http://babelfish.altavista.com/ to read to read it.
The B10 rating on the engine is 180,000 Miles. That means out of 1000 engines only 10 will need more than normal service.(oil changes and filters)and a timing belt change. The engines are shipped direct from the factory in South America world wide.Shipping into the USA is (was ) on the average of 1,000 USD via air freight. We ship every 6 to 8 weeks. The build time on the engines is 45 to 60 days.(There are none held in stock.)
As these engines are non EPA compliant they are for off road use only or for non EPA compliant vehicles in the USA.Canada and 99% of the rest of the world no problems. Kits are available to mate them to the following transmissions:
Auto Version Kit: Powerglide TH350 TH400 700R4 4L60/4L60E 4L80E Manual Version Kit: (this kit can use a 11" or 12" clutch assembly) SM465 NP435 NV3500 NV4500 there are more...) In addition, this kit can be used with any of Advance Adapter's Chevy V-8 to various transmissions adapter kits. This would allow the 2.8L TGV to be mated to countless other transmissions.
Jeep motor mounts are being developed at this time, then Land Cruiser ones.
These engines are built in modern plants that build over 200,000 engines a year.We are putting more information up daily at www.obwcanada.com OOPS I put in pictures of another engine we sell. Want more power we will put these on Ebay.185 HP and 366FT/LB of torque at 1600 RPM.This engine spins up to 3400 RPM.
