I have a 1990 camaro Iroc-z TPI with a 350. I am having problems getting it started and think it's either the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay. Problem is i don't know which relay is for the fuel pump. Does anyone know or know how to find the info I need. Thanks

On my 87, the fuel pump relay is in the upper righthand corner, there's 3 relays and it's the middle one. The dead giveaway is that the fuel pump relay has a rubber part so that you can flex the relay back and forth to remove it.

when you turn the ignition.. do you hear the fuel pump priming..? it should do it for like 2-3 seconds... if you DO hear it.. then neither the pump nor the relay are bad.. but if you dont hear a thing, it could be either or.

The FP relay could be failing and it's better to replace it with a new one.

for my car.. oh shit we have the same car.. well anyway.. the fuel pump relay is the relay to the far left of the 3 if your looking at the engine bay from the front of the car.

On mine, the far left is the MAF sensor relay. There's a chance it's different.

Gentlemen, let's not over look that pesky 'hidden' fuse by the battery for the f/p & ecm.

What and where is this fuse by the battery?

it's a fuse for the fuel pump relay, and it's located by the battery.

ahh thats right.. its in one of those black weatherpack fuse holding deals around the battery by the inner fender.

So the Fuel Pump relay is not one of three located on the firewall?

Yes, the one in middle on most years.
By the battery is a 20A fuse for the circuit. It's on the fender right over the battery, look like a dead end connector but when you open it, voala, there's a fuse in there.

I found the fuse by the battery and it is still good, so I'm leaning towards the fuel pump being bad. Also, I tested to see if there was any fuel coming out of the bleed valve on the fuel rod, there wasn't any. Fuel Pump??

How did the relay check out?
You know what, I jsut thought about it, you shouldn't have 3 relays on the firewall 'cause you'r car dosen't use a MAF.

You're right...beats dropping the fuel tank. I will let you guys know what happens. When did you get your Iroc AFI?

what are the odds that the relay is bad and not the fuel pump?

50/50 aleast. It's an electronic switch, almost like a diode if you will, eventually, it will get tired and go bye bye. :sadwavey:
And when they do, sometime it's not a complete death and really weird stuff can happen.
