Just changed my fuel filter and scrubbed my injectors, how long do I have to wait for the air to be purged from the system. I know the regulator is hooked up to vaccum lines, but how long does it take? Thank you

What problem are you having?

The fuel pressure regulator (FPR) is irrelevent as to whether there may be any air in the fuel system after a filter replacement or injector work. If so then it has a hole in the diaphram. Even with the vacuum line disconnected and the open end of the vacuum hose plugged your engine should still start.

Very carefully you should be able to purge any air up to the FPR at the Schrader valve located on the FPR. Make sure the engine is not hot, cover the valve with a rag and wear protective goggles. I use a fuel pressure gauge which has a purge valve on it to get rid of any air.

My car died about a week ago, before it died it was boging down and was barely runing, I was able to get it back to the house but now cannot start the car. I had abou 10 psi at the fuel rail, so I changed the fuel filter and that brought my fuel pressure back up to normal. Tried to start my car again and still no go. Ran a diagnostic on the car and it came back as a misfire on #6 cylinder. Pulled plugs, checked coils and module, and everything appears to be normal. So I pulled the fuel rail and scrubbed the injectors hoping to solve the problem. Any other input on a solution for this problem would be great and very appreciated. Getting back to the question, since i broke the vaccum on the fuel line I just wanted to know a way of removing the air from the line. Thank you for the help.

I see. Do you recall what the fuel pressure readings were and what they are now with the current problem?

What do mean by breaking the vacuum on the fuel line? Did you disconnect the pressure or return lines at either rail when you did the injector work?

Normally the system has enough pressure on its own to purge any air out of the system. As I mentioned above try bleeding at the Schrader valve.

It was at 10 psi then I changed the fuel filter and brought them up to 51 psi. Still can't get the car started though, even after all that work. What else could cause this kind of problem and cause a misfire code to appear, besides coils, module and plugs?

Oh yeah and I was able to bleed the air using the shraeder port. thank you just didn't know if i would automatically purge of if I had to do it myself

The 51 psi is good. I would say that you do not have a fuel supply problem at least from the FPR back to the filter and fuel pump. Of course, it doesn't rule out the fuel injectors. Although you have a #6 misfire code that one cylinder should not prevent the engine from at least attempting to fire up.

Have you checked physically for spark at any of the spark plugs? Also, you may have to hookup a noid light to see if the injector pulse is getting to each fuel injector from the PCM module.

Someone mentioned that the crank sensor could be the problem, is that a possablility?

The crank postion sensor (CKPS) is a possibility based on your symptoms. The basic causes of no start up are either ignition or fuel. There are two typical symptoms of a defective CKPS. The engine will crank and crank but not fire up and run. Also, when running the car will stall out. It may not give any error codes or SES light. I do not believe it is generating the #6 misfire. In your situation test the spark at any spark plug because when a CKPS goes bad where the engine will not start chances are you will not get spark. It develops the ignition timing pulses (18X) which will feed the ICM to allow the ignition coils to fire.

Here is a procedure to give you an idea of what is involved in changing a CKPS.

A stopped up muffler or catalytic converter will also cause a no start or barely run condition.
