Yea, title says it. 03/04 Cobra thought it had a chance against the 278 whp 1.5 @14lbs. NOT. Smoked him all the way to his speed limiter cause I could see his headlights bouncing. Don't know how fast we were going cause the speedo only goes to 130.

There is no way in hell that a 278whp beat a 390 hp Cobra. Yea, yea, yea, I know the weight difference but the cobras more thee 100+ more then make up for the weight difference. So I stand by my 1st statement he is a lier and a ricer. I know it was my 1st post I had to register just because I had to respond to that stupid ricer.

They dont have 390 hp, they have around 450+ hp, most stock cobra's dyno around 360-370rwhp and with good dyno conditions they dyno around 380-390rwhp. But I agree, theres no way in hell a civic that makes less then 280whp could "smoke" a Terminator. Whats that good for? low 13's? MAYBE high 12's?

you cant spell, you obviously dont know the weight difference or how much weight actually affects our cars.

if you dont know "what its good for" dont open your mouth. theres plenty of all motor honda's running around pushin 180-2xxhp running 12's...hell there are guys around here with stock gsr's in hatch's running 75 shots, running low 12's. and again weight does make a big difference.
As for the story audioguy could you give more details? To me the race is believable but im not gonna back you up till I get more details on the race and your vehicle.

Holy hell. I posted this and didn't get a single reply then BAM. Ok well the car is a 95 Ex coupe. D15b. Eagle rods, Nippon 8.5:1 pistons. Stock head. XS power turbo kit. MSD. It dyno'd at 278hp and 232Tq @ 14psi but the boost does spike every now and then. It was Neptuned by Jason Herrera at autologic in Houston. It is NOT my car. I helped build it and was in the car when this guy in a cobra pulled up with a smug look on his face. At about 70 we dropped 3rd, lost a little traction, so the stang pulled ahead a bit. Got into fourth and pulled him, continued into 5th. Speedo was around 7 O'clock. Wether he just decided to stop of not, I don't know, but that's how it went.

Yea, me, Chris (the owner) and Jason at autologic were all really surpised when we saw those numbers from a motor with so little work done. Jason said he's never seen a mildy built single cam make that much power. He pulled up some other dyno's of single cams and alot of times we were running less boost and making more power.

Asides from weight and power, gearing makes a hell of a difference; if you redline way further out than your rival, you delay cutting your wheel torque by delaying the shift. This is one of the premier reasons why seemingly underpowered imports can often take down domestic cars with motors twice their size. Good kill.

Although I believe you, because what do you have to gain by lying about it, I wonder if the driver you faced was inexperienced or something. I have a 1996 STOCK Cobra (only 305hp) and I could see you taking me off the line, but I can’t imagine you taking me in the long run. Most guys who have done modifications to “rice burners” or cars like a Pontiac Sunbird can post very sexy quarter mile times, but put them on a track and they can’t compete in MOST cases; of course there are ALWAYS exceptions to that. A 2004 Cobra runs 390 hp, stock, with a compression ratio of 8.5:1, gear ratio of 15.0:1, and a max boost pressure of 8psi. The fuel shutoff is at 6,500 RPMs, so maybe left it in a gear to long. Either way, I’m not arguing your statement, but IMO you wouldn’t be able to do that against a good driver. Of course I’m biased being a long time Stang owner/lover, but I would take a stock MUSCLE CAR over a tricked out “rice burner” any day. I know that in 15 years my car will still be revered by others, while the “rice burner’ will be in some junk yard. And there is no doubt in my mind that with a little tweaking, a Cobra will wipe the floor with any fancy little “rice burner” out there. That being said, a “rice burner” with all kinds of fancy mods is the trend at the moment, so live in your glory for now. Good job, man….

As someone who used to own a 03/04 cobra. I had basic bolt ons, just exhaust and intake and I was putting down 408 hp 385tq and I raced my buddies hatch. He had a lsvtec motor with a 75 shot on it. And I walked him pretty good. The race wasn't a blow out as I didn't leave him in the dust, but I also wasn't driving my car at the time of the race, (my friend was) He was an inexperienced driver in the cobra and the guy in the hatch was a good driver. I wouldn't say I don't believe you, anything is possible, but I raced someone with similar numbers to yours and the race was good, but not to close.

Well since this thread is back, I figure I'll warn the cobra owners now :evillol:. The motor's been rebuilt, bored .020 over, new pistons + rods. Getting some 1000cc's and taking it back to Autologic here in the next month for a 20 psi tune. I'll post up some dyno's when we get them.

im not here to bash, just pointing out a quick fact. push 20 pounds of boost through a 5.0 and see what happens. i would like to see an ALL motor honda (no NOS or turbo) take a v8 mustang with the same amount of work done to it. how much does a honda civic weigh anyay, i am just asking i have no idea, cause right now, my car sits at 2400 LBS.

There is more to it then just that. If I had the money, I would drive a 1968 Camaro with a built small block. Overall, domestic "muscle cars" are more expensive then Civics, and are more expensive to modify. Not only that, once modified, you get less than 15 miles to the gallon. I picked up my Civic for cheap, and overall, including the cost of the car, have spent less than $10,000. My car makes just around 215whp, can handle over 1g road holding, can run high 12's (with slicks), and gets 26 miles to the gallon (without driving hard too much, but not being easy on it either). For most of us money is the main factor to why we chose the cars we did, and maybe 9,000 rpms helps too. But many domestic muscle car guys look at only power as to how fast a car is. In todays sophisticated, lightweight, technologically advanced world, there are many more factors that make a car fast than just raw power. Just as another example, if you go to the races, the NA class Hondas running mid to high 11's, make about 250whp.

Wow, this is exactly why I'm a Nissan guy. Take a peek over at the Nissan forums and see how many self absorbed asses you see bragging about how they beat a generally overestimated car likely driven by a shitty driver who bought the car just for the image that is associated with a Mustang. None. That's how many you see.
By the way, with 20 psi of boost, unless you invested in an ungodly strong aftermarket block and/or cylinder sleeving, your going to blow the block the fuck up.

...and no. Genious. Simple block guard and a good rod/piston combo and it's fine. Honda cranks will hold up to 400HP. It's all in the tuning. I'm thinking someone who has built such a set-up would know a bit more than, say, some "nissan guy" speaking from hearsay. And self absorbed? It's not even my car. Nice. Mr. 30 posts talking smack already is NOT a good start. I suggest you learn a bit more about turbo applications and feasibilty before critisizing and loose the attitude. Read the rules.

Since when is a 04 cobra overestimated? They run in the 12's off the showroom floor. There are really not that many cars that will touch it within a reasonable price range. As for the boost, there are cars that are able or near to handling that from the factory. The 03/04 cobra can handle a 17psi kenne belle with an otherwise stock motor.
