Tamiya 1/24th kit, a real joy to assemble, the fit is exquisite. Had to take some pics quick before that black paintwork gets covered in dust and fingerprints. Progress thread is here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=556702).

You really need to tidy the GT up a bit, there is spiderwebs on the front hood.
That is just amazing! Incredible shine and depth in that paint job, seems you could just sink in and disapeare.

Thank's for the peek!

Hmm… I could start to quote superlative comments, but I’m sure the thread will be full of these before long. Therefore, I’m not keen on the yellow callipers. But, I do like your style with the interior, and the CF work is tight. Overall, a stunning job – oh ok, maybe some “ooh, Ahh” comments…

Oh – Nice paint as well.

Holy s**t!! What a show stopper!!

Phil - I swear this is true - until just now, I never really understood what people meant when they wrote about "modeling porn" (or smthg like that) but as of just now, the penny has finally dropped and I get it.

Simply outstanding.

A masterclass in 24th car building. On the strength of this I might just be pressing the 'order now' button. Awesome.

Did you have any problems with the windscreen - I spoke to a chap at the weekend who'd built this car and he said it was a snap fit?? :uhoh:

Thanks for the comments everybody, glad you like it. :)

Paul - yes the windscreen is a snap fit as are the tail lights. I was a concerned about it but after a bit too much force the windscreen snapped in with no problems. A scary moment, but beautiful execution by Tamiya.

carlisimo - with a lot of patience. Truth be told I try and avoid detail brush painting as much as possible. I'd rather section the pieces or mask and spray. I also used flat black decal for some sharp edged areas, like the black rubber seals behind the red parts of the rollover hoop.

godfather23 - you saying I don't build enough models? I agree, it gets harder and harder to find the time for modeling.

Cheers guys and thanks again. I'll try and upload some higher res pics to my website before I head off to Melbourne tomorrow.

Amazing built. Can you tell me which paint did you use for the brake disks?

RallyRaider

Thanks. No paint on the brake disks they are Studio 27 PE.

I thought white was the perfect color for the CGT. Now I realize black is just as good!

Ok this might have been asked already, and if it has been, I'm sorry. But you have to tell me step by step what you do to get a shine like that. And what you do to paint your car. Because that is just insane. No joke that car is spotless. I am in pure shock.

Something I would like to talk about :)

When I built my Carrera GT I painted brake discs in some metallic color, don't remember which one. Later I came across some better photos of the car and I got this one:

http://personales.ya.com/cold_fire/disco.jpg

I think that neither not painted PE nor any usual metallic color are the best option for the ceramic brakes of this car. It's something I would like to imitate anytime I do this model again. Any idea about how painting that? Anyway if you paint them looking like that 90% of the people will say "wtf did you do with the discs?" :D

Sorry RallyRaider, now it looks like I wanted to criticize your build. It's fantastic :)

cszakolczai - there is plenty of info on how I paint and polish in the progress thread. There's a link to it on the first page of this one.

Cold_Fire - interesting, I've seen plenty of CGT pics with shiny discs and many with dull ones. What you are looking at there might be a ceramic/carbon disk option over standard steel brakes, I seem to recall some other exotics have such a thing. I guess for added realism some kind of weathering should be applied to the brake discs, didn't think of it on this occasion. Thanks for the tip, coulda given it to me during the progress thread before the thing was finished!

Anyway have good weekend guys, I'm off to Melbourne for the Model Expo. :)

Amazing... I can usually find something with a posted model that tells me it's a model and not a real car, or something that I personally don't like or bugs me, but this model is seriously perfection. I don't think it can be improved at all. Simply awesome.

You'll have to put this in a display case, so it can't be covered with fingerprints or dust. And I'm rather curious what you'll answer to auw12's question.. do you "threat" you're windows?

OK Phil, how did you go in the Melbourne Model Comp??

Was awesome Rob. Ran into a friend of yours, Paul. His Green Willis was a beauty, with some very nice turned parts on it. ;)

The CGT won its category with a score of 99/100! I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and peered over the judges shoulders while they judged it. :)

Thanks. I don't do anything special with the windows. I do keep them bagged up until the last possible moment to minimise handling. Sometimes I've used polishing compound to remove minor scratches, but find it is best to avoid scratches in the first place. I've heard dipping in future is the way to go but we don't have genuine future in this country, so I can't try that.

A few guys have asked me what I used on the wheels to dull them down and shade the centers, both in the progress thread and at the Expo today. I found the stuff again, its called Kosutte Gin-San (http://www.hlj.com/product/WRK00251). HLJ have it in stock. :)
