I have a 1993 Lesabre that started having issues in the last month. It started with me having it stall on the highway and unable to gain power consistently. Then after changing the fuel filter it started running rough at idle or under load. Then we changed the fuel pump because it seemed to be not getting enough gas. Now, it smells of fuel when idling or underload, and seems as though it wants to stall when idling in drive but not park. We also changed a vacuum hose that went to the fuel pressure sensor thingy bop. LOL. It was hard and cracked but replacing it seemed to make things worse. :screwy: It really seems as though it is flooding itself when driving. My gas consumption is through the roof. I'm getting to the point where a match being lit may possibly be the correct answer for this dang car. HELP!!!!:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: I might as well answer this question first...No the check engine light does not come on. Seems to be the first question asked. The mechanics in my town would rather me be stranded on the side of the road then look at it so according to them until that light comes on there is no sense looking at it.

well see if you can get any trouble codes out of thie car at first not all the time the light will come on if there is a code stored and have you had a look at the injectors in there might be clogges and have you also checked the timing??? possible look at`s there

Hello

What is the condition of your plugs and wires? When the car was running, did it run rougher during acceration? When you pull the vacuum hose off of the fuel psi reg do you get any fuel out of it? (if you do it's bad) What fuel psi are you running? Has the fuel psi been checked?

The car does run rougher in acceleration. The plugs and wires are good. When the vacuum hose comes off there is no change and no fuel comes out. I haven't got a fuel pressure gage, but I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking maybe the fuel injectors were messed up, but (I'm female) so can you tell me where to find them so I can check them out. I am somewhat mechanical (as you can tell, did all the work myself with a lil help) but thanks to this website have been able to avoid the humiliation of a mechanic face to face. Also want to say that I put in two bottles of injector cleaner in one then six months later the other. That is when the issues seemed to start. Should I try one more bottle? Is it possible it loosened but didn't release the gunk?

Generally you need to avoid injector cleaners because they are a waste of money. Gasoline has cleaners already added. Also, fuel pressure gauges are cheap at any auto parts store (like AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts). The injectors sit on the sides of the intake manifold. You need more experience and tools to check them out. They are not really a do-it-yourselfer checkable part. Take it to a dealer and pay to have the problem properly diagnosed, then refuse service and fix it yourself (don't have them check the injectors, but rather give them the symptoms of your car running rough and let them do their diagnostics based on that). Throwing money at the problem by guessing and changing parts will cost more money in the long run.

give the throttle position sensor this may be the problem your having here sounds like it in alot of ways

So, thank you all for your input. I decided the only way to test without any proper tools would be to take out the electrical input to the fuel injector while the car was running to see if a) there was power going to the injectors, b) if there was any change in the engine while disconnecting each injector one by one. I discovered that yes two of the injectors (both having power going to the injector) there was no change in the engine. Which then tells me that those two are not working. I took it down to the local parts store(only to have them offer me a job as well..lol) and the parts guy, who is a licensed mechanic confirms my theory. Ordered the two injectors. So I will see if these are the only problems next week when the parts get here. Btw injector cleaners are good, however not the cheap ones, the mechanic said to get a good cleaner with a lubricating agent that would help with the o rings etc. Lucas is the brand, and after one bottle of that in my tank I could notice the difference in town, however with only four injectors working highway speed will not be affected.

You know...when I had my '93...I got those same symtoms and it was the MAF sensor. Never had the CEL go on because of it either. It went around 140k and I kept the car to 175k. How many miles on yours? Oh yeah...if it is the MAF sensor...try to get one from the boneyard...it might be rolling dice but a new one was like $200-$250...unless I got ripped off.

Also...replacing any old vacume hoses may help this as well.

I'm going to try the two bad injectors first. See how that goes. Then if that's not it I will go on to the MAF sensor. I have 375000 kms on my car but everything seems to be in good shape otherwise. It was well maintained by the previous owners, they even produced every reciept for every bit of work they had done on it. I keep everything up with it too. Someone told me that if you take care of a Lesabre they will run til the body rusts off..lol
