My Acclaim Horror

Hello everyone i was searching google for some info about plymouth acclaims and It lead me here eventually. Well let me get started
I have had my 95 plymouth Acclaim v6 3liter for almost 3 years and man what a headache!! I have no heat in the winter and no air in the summer & worst of all about 3 times a month i have to tap the starter with a hammer and then turn the key. It leaks anti freeze under the passengers side about 5 times a year & the tempature gauge jumps all the way up and then slowly goes to normal every mourning!
So let me get in depth with my problems.
I know the starter is no good, I had this problem for over a year now but it only acts up about 3 times a month if that & usualy if i have extra weight in the car it happens. I know the starter has a spring in it or something and its not catching when i start the engine so a few good taps on the side of the starter makes the spring get in place and i can turn the ignition on. Problem solved
My heater core is shot, I plugged it with good ol Bars Leek & that held all winter until today, it leaked some on the passengers side and a little under drivers side floor. I actually put 50/50 anti freeze in yesterday and Lucky me it leaked today. I usualy never put it in but i figured what the hell. (I just put it in the radiator) I know the heater core cost about 50$ for part and its pretty much impossible to repair yourself so im not going to spend the extra hundred(s) for labor. But does anyone know what else can cause it to leak? It only happens when i put antifreeze in the container spot. Srry im car illiterate :-(
Also when it happens my windows fog up and it has a strong smell of antifreeze coming thro the vents.
I have no air conditioner either, I had it when i first bought the car (im 3rd owner and i got it with 79,000 miles) It now has 107,000 miles. Im not sure what kind of Freone I need to put it in. So i was wondering if its the old stuff or the new A134 or something like that?
I got into a car accident a year ago and i needed to get a new Hood, New right light & turnsignal, new grill & radiator. But get this all those parts cost me $125 from the junkyard. And also lucky me the hood was the same color as my car :0) So therefore im not sure if i got the same 95 model hood which indicates what kind of freone i would need.
I recently bought a new drivers side Window moter & window so i can finally roll down my window. The window never went down for me (obviously dead motor so I took out the old one and i could physically push it down with my hands until one day it got stuck all the way down and used pliers to pull it up....bad news it shattered)
So i got the new window & motor for 30$.
But this car is nothing but shit, I hate it. I have 7000$ saved for a new truck that I am going to buy hopefully by the end of summer. So i just need my car for 3 more months. But i desperatley need new tires & brakes or i will crash soon. (especially in the rain)
Well people DO NOT BUY YOUR KIDS A PLYMOUTH ACCLAIM. I am 20 and I can say I never picked up a girl in this car. LOL And im good looking so do your kids a favor and avoid old cars.

Anyone want to buy my for $1300 obo I will be more than happy to get rid of it. It does runs great and thats about it. PW,PL,AM/FM/TAPE,PS,4 door,v6 3.0liter,Green with free paint chips 107k .

Throw it in the junkyard then.

1. You probably damaged the air conditioner condensor (in front of the radiator) in the accident. Uses R-12, but if there is no freon in the system (can check by drepressing the stem in the Schroeder valve, looks like a valve stem in your tire) you are looking at a major repair bill.

2. Heater core is on the Drivers side, under the dash. Not easy to replace, but not too bad, and costs $35 at NAPA. They do plug up easily if you don't keep the coolant serviced.

3. Electrical stuff wears out; be glad you were able to find a new window for $30.

Try taking care of you vehicles next time, numbnuts. My grandma bought a 91 Spirit off the lot, drove it ALOT (my aunt lives 3 hrs away and she was there once or twice a month) and she just gave it to my dad 2 yrs ago. The only major thing that has gone on it is the CV joints on the frontend but that is my dad racing mustangs with it so it was expected. My Acclaim, a '93, has 143000 K on it and it is still in almost mint condition. I had to change the gas tank cuz it was rotted out and my speedo is a little off.

Both cars are Southern Ontario driven cars, so they see humidity, road salt, snow, rain, all of it.

here is a search of allpar's 200,000 mile club. quite a few acclaims made the cut. and this is not even a search of the more popular spirit on the same chasis. just because you didn't take care of it doesn't mean the car is bad! mike

it sounds like your car is possesed ,but at least it runs from point A to B. your ac problem is from the accident your ac radiator is probably leaking and wont hold pressure and needs to be replaced before adding more refrigerant also the refrigerant is r-134 cause they dont sell r-12 something about it eating a hole in the ozone layer but you can retro fit your car with r-134 pretty easily . I would keep your money in your pocket and run her until its not running any more and invest your money in stock or good insurance lol;)
