Well, with the departure of my EX Sedan in a few days I will be project-less, especially since we got the Mazda fixed. I want a 4th generation civic but I cant make up my mind whether I should get a CRX or a Hatch. I know where DX versions of both are and I'm keeping what's in-tact of my EX to do the "Si Conversion" but my question is what's the differences between the two or is the body all that seperates them? The reason I'm not going with another sedan is because I prefer 2-doors instead of 4.

Don't stoop to the CRX level (:finger: to all you CRX owners hehehe).
I think there are alot of differences between the two though. Body parts aren't really interchangeable (unless you don't mind changing several of them). The interiors are quite a bit different as well. With a hatch though, you'll have alot more room and some decent rear seating (unless you rip out your back seat like me). And alot more cargo space if you need it. Plus the hatch looks cooler. I'm not sure what the curb weight is on either of them, but I think the CRX is almost as heavy as the hatch is...

More room is a good thing when you are a big guy like me  Anyway, I think both cars I found are automatic, what should I yank from the EX just to make sure I can convert it? clutch pedal and shifter w/ linkage is all I can think of, anything else I need to grab? The tranny is shot so obviously I dont need it as is the clutch cable.

Damn that CRX is sweet, it would look better if the spoiler didn't stick so far off the back, but I guess the wiper would get in the way then, but shave the wiper, what do you need it for.

That is indeed the nicest CRX I've seen (with the exception of Worshp's CRX). Welcome to the board.

Didn't want to cause any confusion, that's not my CRX...
I was just saying that I'm going with the white outside and red inside the opposite of the picture.
MUCH PROPS TO THE OWNER.

my beater 323 is the only "riced out" ride I'll have, mainly because I gotta have something to test idea's on :)
Well, I'm still torn between the two as to not knowing which one to go with so I'm going to just get the engine first (since I DO know what engine I'm putting in it) and work on it and once I get it the way I want it I'll start looking for a body.
I'm gonna start a new thread on asking what I need to grab from my EX to make sure I have everything just in case the body I get is an automatic.

hatch for my vote, more seats and (from what i've heard), easier swaps
amy@af
07-31-2002, 05:52 PM
i love my hatch! it's simple at first glance...complex should you pay closer attention. when you pop the hood, the valve cover doesn't say v-tec...so people assume it's a d16a6. i giggle when people ask if i have $10 clear corners...and why my sidemarkers are amber (no clear) :hehe:
hatch is more practical for daily driving and crx is more practical for race car. so it depends what you want/need...more room & a back seat...or smaller & lighter?

I was at the junkyard where that CRX I found is at and I got a chance to sit down in it, which was the first time I've ever sat in a rex. It was okay but I've driven a 4th gen hatch, and I think I'll like it better so I think I'm gonna go with a hatch. Anyway you look at it the body will be one of the last things I buy, I'm going to get my engine first and make sure it will be reliable before I put it in anything.
Either way you look at it, they both are chick-magnets :smoka:

4th gen Civic ALL THE WAY! i'd take a CRX, but i love the room in the Hatch, and i actually use my back seat, even though i use it for trunk space, cause my system in in the trunk, it still serve's a purpose! :)

GTS is an automotive accessory company, they make headlight covers, taillight covers, and vent guards among other things. Some people call it GTO because they cannot see the last letter is a S (looks like GTO on the products) Next time you see a vehicle with headlight covers, it's a good chance they are GTS

I think GTS is the company's name, not refering to a specific type of car. And there is no Prelude GTS.

You can get GTS headlight covers for the 4th gen Civic, I was offered a set for my car (90 Civic Sedan) for $5 but I had just put clear corners on so I wanted to show them off.

Go with the CRX, that's what I am currently planning on getting at the moment. That Mugen Flared kit is what made me fall in love with the CRX's. Once I get the Rex, I'm going to decide whether to get the Flared Mugen kit or a Blitz kit so it will match my friends Eclipse.

The CRX is lighter then the Hatch. That's a given. It's just comes down to personal preference. I like the sleekness of the CRX. There are a few more products for the CRX then the Hatch. And who ever said that the swaps are easier to do in a Hatch is mistaken.

You know, Car and Driver refered to the CRX as a "poor man's Porsche", and any car that can be compared to a Porsche has got my vote:cool:. Besides, who needs a back seat, that just means you have to give more people rides:D .

LOL, that's precisely why I ripped mine out! hahaha.
Nothing worse than a buncha drunk people in my back seat trying to ash their cigarettes out the rear side windows, burning holes in my tint and shtuff. And, I can turn down any bum who wants a ride, guilt-free. Oh yeah, and now I've got more room for my subs...

How much do each weigh crx vs civic? I got into an argument today with a kid who was bragging about the corvette Z06 and its 550-700hp (not the right figures) and its 11.2 1/4 mile time I pointed him to joes b18a turbo 4th gen hatch and its 11.7 1/4 mile time with just those mods and under 300 horsepower and he was liek yeah but he put 20+ k into that and I was like no... For how much you could buy that corvette for that lil civic would rape up on it for 5x less.

i would have personally gotten a CRX. your going to find aftermarket products like headlights and such much easier then you would the sedan ... hehe i know trust me! the only thing really keeping the companies from discontinueing the products they do manage to squeeze out is the CRX ... overall though there both good project cars.
CRX all the way!

Make them yourself...
Remove them from your bumper, open the lenses, and inside, there is an orange piece of plastic. Pull this piece out, and re-assemble the lenses. voila! FREE clear bumper lenses.
If that doesn't work on your car, check out www.autodynamic.com, they've got 'em for decent prices...

Hey man, I own a hatch and I say get a crx... They are lighter, have better handling and are generaly more fun to drive... If you plan on doing alot of high speed driving I would have to say hatch thoe, they tend to be more stable at high speeds.

I agree. Get a CRX. I have a hatch and love my car but sometimes I wish I had a CRX because of the x amount of weight my car has over a rex. The room is good, but only if you have kids I think. The more room, the messier it will get hahaha. Driving on the freeway, I am glad I do have my car. I wonder how hard the wind would make a rex pull, wow. Its honestly your decision. I say a rex with a nice engine swap and more upgrades.

:gives:
if time were a factor then we wouldn't have a "search" function :thinkerg:
thanks for brining that up KoRnSaQ :bigthumb: does anybody happen to have the curb weight of all model's for the civic, sedan, and crx. we have discussed them all separatly in the past but not all together.

CRX gets my vote for fixing up. HB is better as a grocery getter or work car since it has a good amount of space when the seats are down. I own both a hb and crx and I think the crx is a better car performance wise..its like a 67 Fastback Mustang and the HB is like a regular boring 67 stang coupe...get what Im saying the crx has more cool factor in it.

I would have to say hatch back becaues for some reason when I drive my friends crx and I am going fast it feels like I'm going to fall of the road. But my hatch feels better at that high speed. I dunno maybe it's just me?

very interesting indeed! what is the weight of a 91 si? jer's doors are noticably heavier. i was curious if the car over all was heavier.
where did you find these numbers? i would be intrested in adding them to the site
so mr melt...care to debate those numbers? i have heard you (more than once) claim the sedan was lighter than a si....as in it has some kind of advantage. according to those numbers only the dx sedan is and by 10 pounds. :grinno:

Besides, who needs a back seat, that just means you have to give more people rides:D .
Thats what I am saying. I had a 95 gran prix and it was a literal bus I always had 4 ppl with me. Now I tell them that they have to ride in the hatch with the 10's. Most decline. Some accept then regret it when I turn the bass up and the glass starts rattlin and they're head hits the roof on a bump.
