ever since i got my car the doors act wierd when locking or unlocking the car (lock/unlock/lock) random #'s of times due to some security problem, i had a new keyless entry installed and it worked fine for a week or two and now its back to its old ways. THe techncian sayed i need a Factory ETACS module and that i need to get it so he could put it in. If anyone knows what this does and who has one (maybe on a parts car) that i could get for cheap please let me know.

It's very easy to replace, the ETACS unit is under the steering wheel, on the left of the steering column close to the drivers kick panel. A Little silver computer, 2 bolts hold and it has 2 harnesses on the bottom edge. Make sure you get a replacement from the same year and trim, because I'm not sure if they differed.

If I remember right, you're car is an NA? I think the part number should be MR141215, but I'm not positive. You could try 3si's parts for sale section or www.car-part.com they seem to go used for around $40.

thnks igo my car is a 97 sl, and what does etacs stand for? i just emailed 3sx and asked if they had one, and if not i asked if the 96 sl etacs will work. Im not a member on 3si and i dont want to mess with it so if u could get me the guys email id appreciate it, and what sounds like a reasonable offer. nvm i see uv covered that also ($40). we should pay u igo.

haha. Honestly I have no idea what it stands for. I ran across it in a post one day, and looked it up. And I just did a quick search on 3si for you, wasn't hard at all. You now know about as much as I do on the topic.

It appears they are listed on 3si by generation. So I'm assuming as long as you get an NA 2nd gen one, the year shouldn't matter. Hopefully 3sx gets back to you, I like and support their shop, but teh one time I did try to get in touch with them, I found they didn't answer a single email...so who knows?

I would say it's definantly in your best interest to get on 3si for things like this. The ability to do a search over there is really helpful. Hopefully the guy gets back to Spawn, otherwise I can try to shoot him a PM as well.

My "convo" with the 3sx guy. now im confused. has anyone ever swapped an etacs before, cuz this guy is pretty much saying u gotta call japan, tell them ur vin and they will pull a new one out their butt and it will work - for 300 dollars of course. edit* dreamspawn he hasnt emailed me yet, i dont want u to have to bug him for me but if u could tell him im interested again, or whatever thatd be good.
On the other hand i finished lifeguarding school 10 bucks and hour baby!

(start from the bottom)

ETACS are VIN specific so I seriously doubt that you could switch it over.
You are looking in the $300.00 range for a new one.

Ok, could you tell me how much a new one is and also ask one of your technician's if a 1996 3000gt sl etacs module will work in a 1997 3000gt sl.
Thanks, Sawyer

Sawyer,
I do not have one used, I could get a new one from Mitsubishi direct but it will more than likely be quite expensive.

It had stock keyless and when i bought it sometimes whenever i hit buttons the emergency flashers would go off. then i took the flasher unit off and cleaned it put it back on and that quit. after that my locks just go crazy using a key or keyless. so i went with viper and had it installed by a very highly recommended tech. and it worked for a while but now we've both concluded that it definately sounds like the etacs. If u have one on a parts car that i could buy thatd be great, and if you know if the 96 sl etacs will work on teh 97 sl then i could buy that from a friend.

Thanks, Sawyer

ETACS is a computer that controls all of the electrical happenings inside the cabin. A/C electrical functions, locks, radio, seats, lights etc. ETACS units are very expensive. Sounds to me like your car was improperly wired when you went keyless.

The technician said i need a new ETACS module which sounds like a Security computer module? i was wondering if you had a used one i could buy for my 1997 3000gt sl 5spd, and if the year and trim affects this part. If not i found a guy with a 96 sl would that work on my 97?

I'll hit up that guy on 3si for ya. I wouldn't bother going through 3sx. It isn't a product they sell, so they best they can do, is go through a dealership, and then tack on their own fee on top of it. No point in paying htat much. I almost gaurentee a 96 and 97 would be interchangeable. Nobody on 3si has listed one by year, it is always by first or 2nd gen, so I don't think you will have any problems.

LOL if an ECU isnt VIN specific i dont see how an ETACS comp could possibly be. Although, like Igo said, you should probably get one from the same gen and trim level.

Ive got a 96 3000gt sl,that has had door lock issues since i got it,The OEM remote didnt work, and when you use the key to lock/unlock the car it ratchets back and forth ..mainly on the passengers side lock.Ive pulled the actators, and checked them,Ive metered the switches on both key lock cylinders, and replaced both Door lock relays. The problem persists.Im thinking etacs unit now,as there is supposed to be 5 v fed i believe from the etacs unit to the keyless remote unit, and its way low.....about 1.2 vdc.im beating my head against the wall here...anyone had this problem?:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
