Out of Commision

Well I think that I will just put my GSX out of commision for a while. I am going to store it in my parents garage and just wait untill I have enough money to rebuild the 6-bolt and head entirely. Its what I should have done in the first place, but I guess thats a $2000 lesson. Im not sure if I want to try and dump any more money into the car right now. Does anyone have part #'s for all of the ball joints on the front of the car, mine all need replaced and as far as I know Mitsu doesn't list the individual ball joints for the upper control arm, just the whole arm for replacement. Also just for my knowledge incase I change my mind, how much does it cost to have the head rebuilt with a 3 angle valve job(average) My other question was when you pull the head do both the block and head need resurfaced or just the head? Thanks.

Thanks for all the help spyder, last I knew the main-forum was the DSM related off topic forum, so my question is why do we even have a main forum? but regardless, if anyone has some answers to my questions they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm confused (probably due to little sleep). Why is it decomissioned?

It means "Out of Service".
Could someone please answer my question about the head resurfacing?

You can't get the ball joints seperate, you have to get the whole control arm if i remember right, they needed replaced on my spyder.
Usually a three angle valve job will run you a couple hundred bucks, it's a pretty simple procedure nowadays, they have one bit that does all the angles at once, pretty nifty. You dont need to send the block in to get the surface done since it's not aluminum you can simply get a scraper and some emery cloth and go to town on it until it's cleaned up.

Thanks for the reply on the head. I will go search vfaq. I thought someone gave a NAPA number for the ball joints. I figured someone would know it.

I know what decomissioned meant, I was just wondering why its decomissioned. Did something break?
I dont think you'd have to worry about the block warping. I think iron dissapates heat faster and is a decent amount harder than aluminum so it takes a lot more to warp it. Thanks Josh for the advice on cleaning it up, I am going to have to do that to my block soon, I was actually just going to start a new thread on that.

Sorry, I missread, I thought you asked what was decommisioned. check out this link, 6-bolt down (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=571651). I am not sure what has actually happened. My timing marks still lined up so when I pull the head I guess I will know. I am paying it off tomarrow and looking for another car. when I get out of school and have money to rebuild the whole motor how I want it, she will be back in service. untill then its a lawn ornement(not really its in the garage, I just wanted to say that). ;)
