Ok brethren, admin has finally granted us some long needed sub-forums! These should suffice for 95% of the stuff you guys post. The sheer volume of traffic in the E/T/L forums makes these sub-forums a necessity, so use 'em!! :smokin:
From now on, any thread that can easily go into any one of those subforums, and is instead carelessly and deliberately posted on the main forum, will be LOCKED as soon as it comes to mod attention. No more moving threads if people are being lazy about it! Josh and I have been constantly moving threads, and many of you guys are repeat offenders. :nono: Such threads will only be moved if :
1) they were posted by newbies,
2) or it was a sincere mistake,
3) or the author was sincerely unaware of which sub-forum to use.
All other threads out of place will be locked, and members with deliberate and continuous disregard of the above will be banned . :crying:
Temporary use of the main forum will include threads regarding any gatherings, meets, dyno-runs, local hang-outs, etc. We are constantly working on ways to make this forum run better, and look better, so we'll be updating this regularly.
Alrighty then! Any questions, PM me or -Josh-. Grassyass!

Maybe it's just me, but the main forum is ugly as hell now. All it is is locked threads and redirects. Why do we even still have it if 95% of threads can be put in sub-forums? Anything that dosn't fit can go in O/T or something.

I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I think the main forum is part of the forum layout, the basic forum skeleton, and you can't really get rid of it. A main forum is like a lobby room, and the sub-forums are like individual rooms. If you don't know which room to go to, you just hang out in the lobby until someone helps you. Fair 'nuff?

I really don't understand your dilemma. Why does the use of sub-forums and this new thing we got going "piss you off", TreeFrog? I dont see the hardship incurred on our fellow DSMers if they have to click a mouse button a few extra times to post correctly.
The three exceptions are already catered for: newbies, mistakes, or not knowing what sub-forum to use. So, youre telling me, you would rather deliberately post on the main forum and have mods move your post to the appropriate forum, than just do things right in the first place? There is a methodology to the madness here. Everyone seemed to be whinning about the lack of sub-forums since as long as I can remember, and now that we finally have dedicated sub-forums, people don't want to use them.
What is your argument?

i'm not arguing your theory. its the results. basicly we have a forum with a ton of moved and locked threads. and ALL those people i bet are like "wtf"
i really don't care, i'm just going else where. where the organization works, and there are no locked threads.

Its members that lock threads, not mods. We are just the messengers.

The results have been positive, despite your analysis. Since the propogation of the sub-forums, a great majority of members have been using them efficiently and effectively.
The DSM forum within AF is one of the busiest forums around. Order and structure in such a community is a necessity, and us moderators, along with the much needed and apreciated help of existing members, help keep things tidy here. The occasional locked or moved thread we still have to deal with on the main forum, but the sub-forums are indeed serving there purpose.
I am not quite sure what you mean by "i'm just going else where. where the organization works, and there are no locked threads". If your definition of "organization" entails a free-for-all forum with unmoderated junk floating around, you perhaps mean a DSM blog, rather than a technical forum. People are here to learn. And the adequately provided off-topic sub-forums are here to help fellow DSMers talk about non-DSM stuff in their lives.
Have fun on your way out, it was good having you here. But this is the way the forum will run, too bad you have a problem with it. Bye bye :sadwavey:

I like the new system, but are the thread re-directs on the main page going to stay? I thought they were supposed to dissapear after a period of time. It just looks ugly having only locked threads and re-directs on the main page. Otherwise I have no problems with it so far.

Yeah, is it possible to delete the redirects? I dont really care, just curious. I think this is great. Other than a few ignorant people, I think they have been working excellently, especially the classifieds. I like the separation, definately happy.

The objective of the sub-forums was to neatly separate obvious groups of threads that members tend to focus posting, as Thor06 has noted above. Such containment makes it easier and faster to surf the E/T/L forum to look for whatever you want, instead of scrolling down a hotchpotch of jumbled up threads on a single page. The fact that this forum is high traffic compared to the other's on AF makes the sub-forums even more of a necessity.
I do agree that the main forum looks odd, with all the locked threads and redirects. This "problem", however, is miniscule when compared to the benefit of shifting things into the sub-forums, so it will be dealt with eventually and accordingly. Till then , we'll have to bear with function over form :)

Would there be any way to "lock" the main forum and just have the sub-forums open for posting? That way you could have all the stickies in the main forum and not have regular members post in it, but instead in the subforums. That way all of the information will still be there, it just won't be as cluttered and ugly. And then if its possible to put the main forum on the top because it will be short with just the stickies and have the subforums underneath. The layout would be similiar to team-2g.com if any of you have ever been there. I'm just throwing ideas out there though for even more improvements (although the current ones are great )

well from the looks of things it doesn't seem to be working out. you just seem to be pissing a lot of people off. me included. i for one haven't been on these forums since you started locking everything. And yet you are here complaining about it. Contrary to what you think, it is working as planned. Threads and posts are being placed in their appropiate sections and in the end it will be more organized.
i'm not arguing your theory. its the results. basicly we have a forum with a ton of moved and locked threads. and ALL those people i bet are like "wtf"
i really don't care, i'm just going else where. where the organization works, and there are no locked threads. The redirects are there to help members (who do not have notification turned on) be able to find their post by just clicking on it to get redirected to where the thread is now located at. This helps the member locate their thread faster rather than having to search for the thread. This is only temporary because, with a high traffic area such as the this forum is, those redirect/closed threads will fall off the main viewing page onto the next page by new threads/posts.
Oh btw, If anyone has a beef to make of the new sub-sections don't blame the moderators, blame me for making it happen (which by the way, the members themselves were the ones which requested these changes). The moderators are only doing their job of keeping this place organized. If anyone wants to pm me their concerns of these changes, feel free to do so, but let me make it perfectly clear, AF will continue to grow and subforums will be continuously added to high traffic areas to keep posts organized.

Just a quick update, which has also been included in the original post:
The main forum will be used to post information about any events, gatherings, meets, dyno-runs, local hang-outs, etc, until someone comes up with a better idea.
Thanks.
