A/c Clutch?

Yes Summers Here And I Like So Many Others Am Faced With The Trouble Of No A/c. Luckily I Am 99% Sure I Know Whats Wrong. I Think Its The A/c Clutch In My Pully System Because I've Heard A Wierd Whining/slight Grinding Noise Come From My Pullys But Never Could Identify It But Today It Got Bad And After Listening I Can Hear It Coming From The A/c Pully. Also I Noticed A Small Amount Of Metal Shavings On My Wheel Well And Magnetized To The Clutch. I Was Wondering Now If Someone Knows Anything About How Hard/expensive This Is To Replace And Any Other Info Would Be Greatly Appreciated. Af Rules!

You can get a reman comp/clutch for around 250-280 for a Delco. You can get a new assembly for about a hundred bucks more. Most of the v5 comp clutches are not available or cost nearly the same as a complete unit. You can also remove the labor time of the tech replacing the clutch and if he is good, adjusting the air gap on the clutch to comp. 4seasons and murray also offer reman and new but Delco is generally the cheapest on the v5 comp.

Sounds like the clutch is wasted.
Try to get your hands on a Delco remanufactured compressor and clutch assembly. Stay away from Four Seasons - unless you feel like doing the job next year. Theyre only good for four seasons, then theyre trash.
Most compressor manufacturers require that you replace the drier and orifice tube with the compressor to have any kind of warranty on it. Since you didnt have an internal failure, replacing these parts isnt a must but a very good idea. When you open the system the desicant bag in the drier becomes saturated with condensation in the air and is ruined faily quickly on a humid day. The orifice tube screen can become restricted and wont allow proper transition of the refrigerant. So, you dont HAVE to replace these but it would be a good idea. :grinyes:
Also, when you replace the compressor, take it to a local shop to have them evacuate the system. Dont just let it out into the air like a backyard hillbilly idiot. Do the work, then take it back so they can put the system under a vacuum and get all the water out. Then they can charge it, or you can get some cans and do it yourself.
