I have a 1994 5.7L Caprice, I have been having alot of problems lately with her. Here's the background on her.... I got her last summer and she rode perfect until a few months ago. I was away at school and I left my car at home to avoid tickets because I can't go 60 on a highway, so she pretty much sat up for 4 months. Now she bullshits when it comes to starting up, I have to hit the gas a few times before she finally turns over then when shes started she puttters a bit like she wants to cut off. When I hit the gas after braking she doesn't accelerate, she hesitates and it feels like shes cut off and sometimes she does cut off. I got her battery and alt tested last weekend and they passed, but yesterday the battery died and I had to get a jump start. I dont know what the hell to do now, I fucking love this car and I just want her to start running great again. What do you guys think can be the problem?????? Any help is greatly appreciated.....

Weak fuel pump and/or dirty/clogged fuel injectors. If you let it set for a while, the pump could have gummed up. Usually, 4 months won't do that but sometimes it can.

Yea, you might have to flush the whole fuel system to get that out. Smell the gas if you can, it smells like kerocene is it is bad.

So if i get the fuel system flushed and get new injectors i should be good to go? how many injectors does a 94 caprice have?, i'm assuming 2. and where can i go to flush a fuel system? should i replace the fuel pump as well?

If you have bad gas, the proper way to take care of it is to drop the tank, empty and clean it thouroughly. Then fill it up with fresh gas, change the fuel filter and do an injector flush. The cheap and easy way that can sometimes work is to try some tank additives such as drygas and maybe a bottle of octane booster. Then screw with the car letting it run for about an hour for the additives to work their way through. If it doesn't work, then you may be stuck doing it the hard way.

I've already done the fuel additive method and it didn't work so should i drop the tank or flush the fuel system cleaning the injectors (or should I replace the injectors) with a replacement fuel pump & filter.

Could the fuel system be the reason i'm having start up issues?

I would not recommend replacing the injectors, Bannon7414. Since your vehicle uses multiport injection, it will have EIGHT injectors (two injectors was on the throttle body injection system). Like GranniesCaprice said, flush the fuel system and replace the filter should take care of any fuel issues, if you have any.

You say "fuel issues, if i have any", you think something else could be the problem? I going to get whatever it is messed up fixed in the morning, what do i need to the the mechanic to look at?

I replaced the fuel filter and got a fuel system flush over the weekend and now the car runs like new. The only problem I have now is the start up problem I believe I just need a tune-up though. Thanks for the info.

The reason I said what I said is that my troubleshooting skills are somewhat limited. I understand how the car systems are supposed to function, but often I cannot tell what problem is causing a particular symptom.
