Cold Air Intake = Check Engine Light

I recnetly bought and installed a cold air intake onto my girlfriends 2001 cavalier. (2.2L) The lower pipe did not fit the application properly, so I'm already upset about that, but so she could still drive it, and so I didn't have to put it all back to stock, I only used the first pipe, to make it a temporary short ram intake. Now it is throwing a check engine light (I know this happens not uncommonly with a new intake). I asking if anybody know what can be done to eliminate the check engine light. I've done a few CAI before and never had this happen, and I'm also not to familiar w/ chevy so I'm hoping somebody has had this before.

what did you do with the Sensor that was in the stock pipe

The aftermarket pipe had two opening on it. One was for the IAT, which I put into the new pipe. Approximately the same depth and angle it came out at. The other was for a hose, I taped it off because no hoses were removed from the stock tubing. I didn't remove the plastic part which has 2200 molded into it, and the only hose was connected to that. (should I maybe open that up again and put a small breather filter on it?)

Put it back to stock, hope you can get your money back, and don't buy generic crap off ebay.

Then, when you get cash together, get an actual CAI or WAI from a reputable company.

if you take the sensor out and just leave it hanging somehwere in your engine bay it should go away because it will be sensoring something...just not the air in the intake pipe...

unnless he damaged the sensor while messing around with it, which is very common.

Well, here we are about 10 days later. I have done nothing with the car at all. I have done more reading on the internet about intakes, and specifically the cavalier, without gaining any new information.

I asked my g/f about the light and how the car was running. She said it went away a few days ago, and hasn't come back. So I guess it worked itself out somehow. I checked under the hood to make sure nothing came loose or out of position, and it looks exactly the way it was installed. So, I guess its okay for now.

If the light ever comes back on get the code no. and post it back.
Also on cold air intake filters if you use a oiled type air filter go easy on the oil and keep the maf sensor cleaned good.
And make sure your all intake hose connections are good and not sucking in any outside air.
