Question about the engine

im going to be getting a 98 sunfire Gt, i want to swap the 2.4 litre engine for the 2.0 ( i believe thats the lowest one) aparently the 2.4 engine is horrible. Now my question is, would the 2.0 bolt into the the 2.4's engine mounts or not? and about the sensors, would i have to switch them or would they work as well?
if anyone would help me it'd be much appreciated.

Who told you a Twin Cam is a horrible motor? They lied. Sunfire GT's and Cav Z24's have the same motor...and you'll be hard pressed to find someone that says that the motor is straight up bad. Not saying its the greatest, but its quite nice.
And a 2.2OHV came in that year of Sunfire and it won't bolt to the same mounts and such.
Why in the hell would you want to do that swap? It decreases power. Hell, if you're one of the wackjobs that thinks you'll get better gas mileage you'll also be in for a surprise, a whopping 1mpg on the highway.

its not the gas milage, its the placment of the water pump and thermostat, its starting to go on the car im going to be getting, and it will run me almost 900$ to change it, where as if i were to swap the engine, and re position the waterpump to run off the serpentine belt it would be easier to fix it.
now, i realize there are costs to operating a car, but 900$ is Alot for a water pump, cause they have to lift the engine, take off the exhaust manifold, just to get at it.

agreed its not that hard.....me and a buddy changed his water pump, fan, and alternator in like 5 hours on his 97 dodge ram. granted that car has a WHOLE LOT more room than a cavy/sunfire, but it cant be too hard. and the only engine i would replace a twin cam w/ is the 2.4 ecotec. i say just either pay the 900 or spend a weekend doing it urself. it would cost a hell of a lot more to find a better engine than the one u have, believe me.

Two totally different setups, not even comparable.
Good luck getting an 2.4 ecotec to work. Drive-by-Wire will not be friendly to your car.
As far as changing the water pump...they're full of shit. Also, I have no idea what the hell you're talking about with "re-positioning the water pump to run off the serpentine." What else would it run off of? As far as "taking off the exhaust manifold...," the water pump is on the side of the motor (passenger side), the exhaust manifold is on the firewall side of the motor, how does that make any sense at all to have to pull that off to get at the water pump?
Get a repair manual, get some tools (hell, you can find awesome deal on Craftsman stuff, and you get a sweet-ass warranty to boot), and fix the things yourself. It shouldn't take you but a couple hours, tops.
Oh yeah, don't go back to that shop...ever...

you have failed to metion who or what told you that the 2.4 was a bad motor. you know what here is what you have to do. go back to whoever is trying to tell you this(you must do this calmly)walk up to this person and punch he/she in the face for trying to rape you.Now here is the hard part, go back to the repair shop and repeat several time until satisfied, and to end it all either find someone to help YOU do it or find another shop a more respectable shop. this ends todays lesson
