Aircon = -hp

Hi. I have a 1600cc golf '97 , 101hp.Lately when I put the aircon on it feels like if it takes alot of power:screwy: . (Much more than usual).With that it also makes arough kind of a noice , like a engine that is under alot of strain and wants to choke and die on me .I filled up the gas a half a year ago and it does blow nice cool air but all this extra nioce and strain on my engine doesn't sound healthy:puke: .Any advice or insight :thinkerg: would be appreciated.
