Key sticks in ignition?

I just bought an '05 Equinox and I've noticed only 1 problem with it.

When I go to turn the car off and take the key out, sometimes it wants to get stuck. Its almost like if you turn it back too far that it sticks.

It doesn't do it for me since I know when to take it out, but my father-in-law drove it and got the key stuck in it.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the BTSI (Brake Transmission Shift Interlock) cable needs adjusted. i have done a few and has taken care of that concern.

Is that something easy to do where you could describe it here? Or is it something to ask the dealer to do?

Thanks for the response.

You have to remove the shifter bezel (which also extends up past the radio and hvac controls) with a small screwdriver, it is retained with push clips, disconnect the electrical wiring from the bezel when you get it off. The BTSI cable will be the one on the left. There is a adjuster with a clip on the side of it that needs to be pulled out, where the cable attaches to the shifter, ( it is hard to see with the shifter still installed, you pretty much just have to feel for it). Once the adjuster is pulled out push the cable forward and reseat the adjuster clip. What happens is the cable is not getting all of the way back to the release position thus causing the key to stick. I would recommend a dealer doing it, especially if you are under warranty, which I bet you are. If not they shouldn't charge too much, it only takes about 10-15 minutes. If you do get in there and the cable is adjusted ok you may be looking at a bad lock cylinder, but the cable needs checked first, I am sure the problem is there.

I have a 2005 with 100,000 miles on it and my key stuck in the ignition one day. I had to yank it out with a pair of pliers. The key appeared to be worn so I tried my unused spare key and it did not stick. I threw my old key away and now use my spare key.
