I just bought my Altima a couple weeks ago. It's the 4cyl and the intake sounds really noisey, it's like a growl- especially above 5000 rpm, a friend of mine has the 6 cyl and I think his is also unusually loud when accelerating. Has anyone noticed the same thing? Does it bug anyone else and should I take it in to the dealer and see if there's anything they can do???

Check your air intake ducts, make sure everything going to and from your air box is tight and secure. Especially check your resonator... I think that is the "muffler" for your intake that reduces noise. If all that checks out, I'd go ahead and inspect your exhaust for any kind of holes/leaks. Chances are if it's growling and noisier on accel, it's probably due to lack of seal somewhere in your engines air circulation.

Well no, first check the fliter. And then you can check everything else. Otherwise, just give it a good cleaning! lol

ther is a swirl valve that opens around 5000 rpm kind of like a secondary air passage to increse hp without loosing low end torque and it makes a noticable noise on accel

check to see if it has an air filter in it, that will make the same noise at about 5300 rpm, and you will also notice the different in power.
