'91 Suzuki SideKick Won't Start!

Sidekick won't start.....If I squirt gas into the fuel injection and re-atach the air breather and turn the key, it sputters and rpms rise slowly....then it runs like a top! Replaced the fuel pump, and the injector...next thing to replace is the ignition switch. Lots of fuel is in the line coming to the fuel injection, it just won't start on it's own. Help!

My 91 did the same thing! power wire to the injecter was bad! Also the 1991-1993 had ecm problems that cause injecters to fail, or have fuel problems. I read that some where else a while back!!!

Yeah, turns out a part of the ECM (also known as the Power Control Modual; PCM) was messed up; more specifically, the part that primed the injector to fire. My Dad made a make-shift starting method by wiring a lamp switch inside the vehicle to the injector and then to the battery(I never seen such a thing done to elecrical systems!). You primed the system by turning the switch on, starting the vehicle then flicking the switch off. Then the engine ran fine! Amazing! It seemed to do the trick for a while, until I could find a new ECM but I've looked everywhere and still have no idea where to look! Plus, the rest of the ECM finially went and lets just say, I have a rather large paper weight sitting in the driveway! Thanks for the help! I appriciate it!

I have a 1991 4 door and i have looked all over for ecm's, your best bet is ebay. You can pick up a ecm or their is a guy that rebuild the capasaters in them for $50-$100, a few options for you!!!

Thanks for all the replies so far. I will definitely try checking the power wire this weekend although I do fear that the problem is with the ecm. (Strange clicking noises from the door locks when driving with lights on which I can minimize by turning off the rear defogger..It's like there's a ghost in the car playing with the door lock switch), and this is my second ecm. I'm sure the Dealer here is at fault -say no more on that.
My problem is that the engine has virtually no power until it has warmed up and even then power is low. (I have checked compression, air filter, timing, and run injector cleaner through the last couple of tanks of gas).
Anybody know how to "Diagnose" the ecm ?????

the injector had 2 drivers , one is fast rise time the other is slow. (bang and hold some call it)
imagine the weight lifter doing the clean and jerk.
after that ,he can kinda? easily hold the weight.
but getting it up, is , Hard.
back to your transistor driver:
yours has the fast rise transitor burned out.
with the wire boost , you will now burn out the slow rise driver , maybe in a bad place too, like in front of a log truck , ever see movie "final destination?"
the answer is here:

Hard jumpin your injector, is for sure, a guaranteed a hard failure soon. !
you need a new ECU ( ebay has them from $75 to $200)
depends on guarantee.

Problem solved, but unexpected cause.
I took the car to an authorized dealer for a quote on what was wrong, they charged ne $40 to tell me the timing belt was shot so I took the car home and took off the timing cover and discovered that the belt timing and belt were perfect. Thank goodness I only asked for quote to fix cause cause I'd have paid dearly for that too.
I gave the timing idea more thought and noted that the Distributor was hard up against the adjustment limit and with a crude timing light proceedure, (you have to short out jumpers etc to check it properly) I noted a huge delay in firing which I couldn't adjust(rotate the distributer for). Calculated which way the distributor should be rotated after pulling it out of the engine and carefully lifted it just enough to feel the disengagement then rotated the firing mechanism 1 cog turn and pushed it back in. Problem solved !!!!!!
Obviously the dealer's mechanic had loosened the distributor and inadvertantly lifted it out far enough to allow the drive to rotate by 1 cog tooth. Now you know why I came to the web for help.
Thanks to all who responded !!!!!

That is where i got my ecm for my 93 sidekick...just went bad again after 2 1/2 years... lifetime warranty isn'[t very good, they say that there is something wrong with ecm, but because it is something they can't fix they will not honor the waranty, but will replace it for me if I pay their cost.. just having a hard time getting it,lol. Also, if your core is deemed to be not rebuildable you don't get a core charge refund. After you replaced your ecm did you find and other sensors needed replacing? heard that sometimes a bad external component can toast those ecms. :banghead:
