All of the steering linkage should be checked for wear: Idler arm, pitman arm, tie rod ends and center link. Suspension parts should also be checked: Upper and lower control arm bushings, stabilizer bar bushings, end link bushings, and the shocks. The "rag joint" coupler at the steering gear, or wear in the steering gear itself, may also be causing the play. Adjusting the preload in the steering gear may take care of it, if not, the gear will need replacement.
The drift or pull to the right while driving might be caused by the right brake dragging. Make sure that is not the case. Alignment angles incorrectly adjusted could also cause a drift or pull. Tires can also induce a drift or pull. Every tire has a certain degree of conisity, (shaped like a cone) and will not roll perfectly true. Try switching the front tires side to side and see if that helps, if not, it's an alignment issue.
