you can just take the stock steering wheel and air bag off and put in a custom one. unless you want to keep your air bag.

im pretty sure its illegal to tamper with airbags.not that it would stop me, believe me im the last person on here that cares about that.but it might make inspection or sale of the truck a bit harder.i just dont worry about it cuz i dont think the sterring wheel in the truck is all that bad lookin

I've heard that some people who have change their steering wheels to say a billet steering wheel don't pass emisions. While I've heard others say it's not a problem. I believe technically it's illegal, but fuck the government trying to tell me I can't put something as minor as an airbagless steering wheel in my truck. It's my own fault if I get a broken nose or jaw from it.

On a side note, the longer I drive my truck the more irritating the steering wheel location relative to the seat annoys the living shit out of me. Why on earth would they not position it correctly?:screwy:

They couldn't; either the seat would have to be offset and a huge gap between the seat and the door, OR, if the steering column were moved over, the steering shaft would get into the fenderwell.

I'm sorry, I'm confused - how is the wheel out of position? I thought he was referring to height or forward spacing, not lateral spacing. Mine feels fine.

I'm a big guy, though, maybe everything just feels centered to me because there's so much width to center on :p.

Yes they could. It's all in the design of the dash. They just had to move the shaft over to the right a bit and design the dash accordingly. Not hard. It's annoyed me from day one after I found myself sitting on the side of the seat. The engineers at gm just fucked up and threw the shit together if you ask me.

guumbah, sit directly in the center of you seat. you'll notice it. not a big deal to some.

I'll check it out. Like I said, as large as I am (I'm half Pacific Islander), there is no middle to the seat :), but I'm sure if my wife does it, I'll see what you mean.

Mine seems to be too far to the right, to me
