My brother has a 1999 mustang gt manual, and he's getting a turn key crate engine , its a 350 or atleast he wants to i was wondering how much work this would be for him to put in a 350 it produces 330 H.P. Is there any specifics for dropping in that engine into this car he should know about
Any replys would be appreciated
Thanks in Advance

More than if he bought/rebuilt the SOHC 4.6 which,
with proper cams can produce 300-350 HP & 330-380 TQ. :grinyes:
Will the 302 be carburated or fuel injected?

The engine would of been fuel enjected, but your saying it would be easier and more H.P just to rebuild it and have good cams, how much do you think that would run him?
And thanks for the post

Sounds like you guys are in over your heads. Do some research, figure out what you want and hw you want to go about it. To put a 302 in a mod motor car it would be easiest to use motor plates. In other words is very expensive and you would be better off modding what you have.

Thanks man, quick question tho, what H.P gains do you think he would see if he rebuild the engine, with comp xtreme cams, and a ford racing aluminum drive shaft? and he added a steeda underdrive pully set, a diablo chip and cold air intake? What H.P you think he would be looking at?
Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance Dropping a 302 in a 99 GT is a waste of money, but my guess would be around 260-270rwhp.

If I had a 4.6, 2v. I would be considering the same thing. Not sure if I would take that giant leap, until I sat down with a parts list, and see which would be cheaper. I do know the 302 are a little easier to work on. I probably would stay with the 4.6, and use a small shot of N2O.

yikes, a 302 in a 99gt? if you were talking about a stroker kit than thats one thing but ....wow
do some research:

youve got a lot to learn yet before tackling a project like that.

If I had a 99 GT that I wanted to build I would change cams & valve springs, upgrade fuel system & exhaust, add gears & a short throw shifter (5 spd), and probably a N20 kit from Summit or Jegs. They have a couple dry nitrous kits in there that come set for 150 shot. These are kits for stock motors if I remember correctly. So cams, fuel, exhaust, gears, shifter, and nitrous and you have one fun ride.

tim@ mph www.modularpowerhouse.com is a good source for custom cams for your needs
ive read that the wet kit is generally a safer route when doing nitrous provided there are safety measures in place (wot switch, window switch) but then again ive seen 3 local stangs blow up on the 150shot nx wet kit as well. 150 might be a bit much for a stock engine in the long run? but then again...i'm no nitrous expert

I agree with that, just repeating what I'm pretty sure I read. A 150 shot is alot of nitrous. Yes wet nitrous is safer. But on a fuel injected motor wouldnt you have to go direct port to get wet nitrous? I'm no nitrous expert either, but I thought that wet nitrous was introduced after fuel.

Wet nitrous is when you spray fuel and nitrous into the intake and dry is when you spray only nitrous into the intake, with a stock engine with stock fuel components wet is definatly safter. You need to have extra fuel to support all the nitrous so if you are only putting nitrous into the engine it will run to lean(unless you spray a very small shot) and you will have a greater risk of causing detonation. I personaly wouldent spray more then 125 unless you have plans to get new internals like I do.
