I just talk to the owner, asking what kind of engine oil did he use. he say regular pennzoil :banghead: . I though turbo car only run synctec, I really want to use mobil 1 10w/30 and im scare to swith over cause the car now is
139000 mile, and it will leak. What should I do now guy ?.

With an engine that has that many miles on it, I wouldn't switch over to synthetic. It will probably leak like hell. Synthetic oil only protects the engine a little better, you don't have to use it. You might be able to get away with running a synthetic blend.

You can use whatever oil you want in a turbo, it doesn't have to be synthetic. And I wouldn't switch over now, the synthetic will clean out all the buildup inside the motor and you may acquire a few leaks. Just run regular Mobil 10w30 in it

I am using conventional oil because I have a leak and dont want to waste royal purple. Just run conventional untill rebuild time then you dont have to go through the headache of all your seals leaking

He running pennzoil, you think I should stick with it ? or mobil 5000 ?. or max life ? ( Im currently run max life on my 215k mile eclipse, I love it ).

You can still switch over to syntec if you want just gotta flush the transfer case. It might leak but meh if it leaks with syntec then it wasn't working properly anyways.

what does this have to do with engine oil?

Do you know anything about engines and engine oil? The transfer case has NOTHING to do with engine oil and just because it leaks after switching to synthetic doesn't mean it wasn't working, it just means that the synthetic "cleaned" out all the buildup. Please don't post unless you know what you're talking about.

Killer, just stick with anything that's not synthetic. I like Mobil 5000 but you could run whatever you want.

I have a question... to switch to synthetic do you just switch or is there some elaborate way to do it?

gthompson97

Well, I usually drain the old oil out, pull off the old filter, put synthetic in the new filter, install the filter, and then dump in 4-5 quarts of synthetic oil.

 Thanks jackass ;). I thought you had to do it gradually like go from dino oil to a 50/50 mix to a full synthetic. Good deal, I kinda wanted to go straight into synthetic.

I always flush my trasfer case when I get an oil change
second is the buildup good?? NO so then its not working properly.

you can break in a motor with syntethic

Most of the people I knew, runing syntec blend first for about 2k mile, then after that running full synstec.

when i bought my car at 102K i switched over to mobil 1 synthetic, and no leaks at all, previous owner used nothing but regular pennz.

lol you seriously flush it that often? why?

Every engine running regular oil has a certain amount of buildup, even synthetics still have a little. Does that mean that every engine isn't working properly?

Whenever I get it done at a shop

I think the T case is a 30k mile job. Sure doesnt hurt to do it more often though.

Ok one last decision. best oil for 139k turbo engine. Please help me out
1- Mobil 5000 10w/30 ( I have this on my 97 rs, and it knock like mofo, but it cheap ).
2- Mobil clean high mileage 10w/30 ( never use this before )
3- Valvoline Max life 10w/30 ( My favore )
4- Pennzoil 10w/30 ( that what the owner been using on this TSI for year )
5- Castrol gtx 10w/30 ( last couple year, I only use 2 time on my rs )
6- Castrol High mile 10w/30 ( use one on my rs, before switch to mobil 1 syntec, and it leak :banghead: )

thanks.

My vote is for Mobil 5000. I've ran mobil 10w30 in every vehicle I own and have had not one single problem.

mobil 10w/30 you mean mobil 5000 10w/30 ??

Well yeah, but they just switched it like a year ago from Mobil 10w30 to Mobil 5000 10w30, 7500 10w30, or 10,000 10w30 (they have different mileage types now). They just used to make one regular Mobil 10w30, but now I just use Mobil 5000 10w30

Thats just a cash grab if you ask me just trying to say like they've changed the formula to appeal to different drivers/
and as for the build up comment.. There is only so much you can remove but if you remove to a point where theres an oil leak... then you have a problem.

I think its part that, but I think some of it actually works too, who knows. I run "5000 mile" oil but still change it every 2000 miles, it's just habit.

Obviously if there's an excess of build up then you have a problem, but a leak doesn't necessarily mean you have a problem either. Sometimes brand new seals will leak until they "set in and seal up" Changing over to synthetic could "unset" them and cause a leak, but you still have a new seal right? Not necessarily a problem, just an annoying leak.

I thought you were supposed to break in engines with conventional because it creates more friction so the rings seat properly. It's also hella expensive for synthetic.

My car has a rear main seal leak (arguably the worst kind) cause that means I gotta pull the transmission (Can't wait)> but I had to buy the seal from mitsubishi (25$) and also I can get at my starter which is shit.
