autoride shocks

Has anyone ever replaced the autoride shocks on their Tahoe or Suburban?

Has anyone ever replaced them with NON-autoride shocks? The OEM replacements are ridiculously expensive so I am contemplating throwing away the old shocks and going with a good grade of non-autoride shock.

What is your experience with this?

Thanks for any help,
Mark

I was in your boat a few months ago (search for the threads). Anyway I had one leaking air and kept pumping. I tried yanking the fuse not only did it ride awful, but the stupid fix autoride light was on then. I called my dealer and he ran the vin number to get the excat shock number I needed and then I ordered it from RockAuto.com. They were about 200 less than the dealer. Since I only needed one I figured it was fine. I have 87,000 miles on the rest and you can hardly tell the difference.

Someone surely must love crawling under their vehicle to replace shocks piecemeal. My advice is to replace them with the best you can afford but replace as an axle set.
