OK, I saw it again over the weekend and I want to warn you folks not to do this.

I saw another car with a fire extinguisher mounted to the A-pillar. This is not a bright thing to do.

First of all in the event you crash into something forwards, your seatbelts will stretch. They can stretch enough for you to contact the windshield. If that fire extinguisher is there......ouch.

Second, the G forces in a crash are plenty high enough to tear that extinguisher form its mount. Figure a 20 g impact.....that makes a 5 lb extingusher put a 100lb load on the mount. Do you want that missle flying around in the car in front of your face after it breaks loose?....not me.

Ent of rant. Y'all be safe out there.

I agree with you. I also see people driving around with their license plates on the dash or by the rear window. If you event you have a accident than that thing will go flying aroud and act like a razor blade as it cuts things up.

I'm gonna be putting my front plate in my windshield, but I'm going to actually have it bolted to a mount of some sort, so I'm not worried about it...

WTF do people think they need fire extinguishers for? That's just a bigass waste of money if you ask me. I mean, yeah, in the event that your car catches fire, I guess you could put it out, but how often does that really happen?

I'm gonna get some fire extinguishers (big chrome ones), and I'm going to mount them in my hatch so it looks like I got NAWZ! just kiddin' that'd be ultramegaricey.

My Delorean has a fire extinguisher in it, and there were like 5 people that thought I was running nitrous because of it.

I don't know why people can't take the 5-7 minutes in and toss a bolt or 2 into their license late and slap it on the back of their car. You're right, it can slide off and slice you open. I'm suprised most police don't care for plates being hung on the window or leaning somewhere on the rear window. That should be considereda safety hazard., if you cannot take 5 minutes to put your plate on your car correctly, keep the car off the road before you fender bend somebody and have the plate slice your neck. :(

Well, in my case, there is no mounting location on the front bumper for my plate, and secondly, even if there was, the plate would block my air-flow through the radiator. So like I said, it'll be in the windshield, but it will be bolted down.

Don't get me wrong. I have fire extinguishers in my cars. I actually had to use one once. My brother has also used one on his car. The just need to be put in a safe place. Mine's in the trunk of my Honda and roadster, in the back of my Samurai and behind the seat of my F250.

zip tie it to the grill/wire mesh...did that with both back and fronts. didn't want to drill holes in the bumper just for the plates.

just a suggestion...

See, I'm torn on this debate. Growing up i was in the scouts(not the eagle scouts, just scouts...stupid yanks;) ) so I've always carried the "be prepared" motto trhough to my everyday life. And this tells me that a fire extinguisher(among a few other things, such as salt and kitty litter during the winter) would be a good thing to have in the vehicle.

However It's a tool(that hopefully you'll never actually need to use), not a decoration. So it should be kept somewhere out of the way, but still easily accesible like behind the seat. And wherever it is it shoud be safely bolted done incase of a crash.

Oh yeah, and make sure the pins still in it :)

As for the license plate issue, I don't know what to say. Here in Canada we don't need plates in the front. As long as you have one bolted to the rear bumper thats all ya need.

While on the be prepared subject, an automatic center punch is something I'm gonna put in all my cars for breaking windows. The last big wreck I was in jammed both doors and rear hatch (in a Mustang). Fortunately my power windows worked and I exited that way. If the electrical system was shot and the car was burning.......

Well, like I said, my main reason for not wanting to attach the front plate to the bumper is because it will limit my air-flow to the radiator (My PIAA's are also being mounted in the front center hole, and if I put the licence plate in there also, theres not much hole left).

Growing up i was in the scouts(not the eagle scouts, just scouts...stupid yanks )

In the states, it's also called "scouts"... "Eagle" scout is just the highest rank in the scouts.

I was a boy scout... my troop kinda broke up. Our meeting place closed so they wanted us all to go join other troops. I never did join another one...
