Overheating Because of Electrical Fan problems

1990 Thunderbird SC has a wiring problem. The fan doesn't come on and causes overheating. Well what I did was bypasss it, by connecting a hot wire from the fan to a 4 prong 12 volt relay.Connecting from the relay to the starter relay. Im am wondering is there an easier way to connect this. Because right now I have 4 wires going all over the place.Any help would be appreciated. thks

Replacing the temperature sensor would have been the easiest thing to do. You did check the fuse, didn't you? I don't have a schematic for your year Bird so I can't tell you exactly where to check for problems. Ask at your library for the Mitchell electrical manual for your year or look at my post in the Tech Help thread to see where to buy factory manuals. If it is like a 95-97, after checking the fuse, connections and the temp sensor, the next thing to check are the relays in the relay module that is in front of the air cleaner housing. One relay supplies power to energize the fan relay and the fan relay supplies power to the fan. See why I said you need a schematic (wiring diagram)! The least likely problem could be the Powertrain Control Module but I had to mention it.
