i have a stock 1986 z-28 and was wondering what the first and best mods are to do to it? what gears come stock in it? i figured the exhaust and headers is probably one of the first things. what type of mods are there for intake? shouldn't you do the intake and exhaust at the same time?

first off what motor did it come with most came with a 305 if u r lucky you got one with a 350. if it is a 305 and you don't want to change the motor, get an intake and put headers, exhast, and a set of 3:73 or 3:55 gears in it and that will make a big diff. and don't forget a shift kit.

another good idea is a cam.not too crazy, thats a mistake too many people make.but a good cam really helps wake those engines up.unfortunately if u do that its a good idea to install new valve springs too cuz theyre probably pretty tired.its really easy to get more into the engine than u planned cuz when u start working on engines that old u can kinda open a can of worms.dont forget a timing set, which on a small block chevy requires u to drop the oil pan.its almost impossible to just do an intake and exhaust lol.is it carbureted or injected?
