carb help?

ok guys.as u know i have a 82 caprice wit da 305 in it...it has good power to me and the engine is relatively new...but heres the thing....it takes a couple of minutes for my car to (warm up)i guess.....its hot here now n memphis and i thought it would go away as it got hotter...but it didnt.....it does this everytime i crank it up after it sits for a minute...it even does this if the car is runnin and its idling for a few minutes....my timing is perfect...it cranks up wit da turn of da key almost instantaneously...the only thing i can think of hat i didnt do to it was change the coil pack,distributor cap and rotor button....could it b the that?or is it the carb,coil pack,weak fuel pump,or wut?im planning on doin a full tune up on it this saturday...all ur input and ideas will b helpful!

also fellas...it acts like its stalling out and will occassionally do so unless i tap on da gas intermentently

I would look at the throttle shaft area on the throttle body of the carb - it might be a little loose. Mine is a little worn and pretty much does the same thing yours does - mostly due to the way I have the idle speed set, but it often idles high as well.

Mine takes a few minutes to fully warm up, but you can always put it into gear and not let off the gas, but driving witht he choke on like that all the time isnt the best.

But my carb Did the same till I rebuilt it, then it still kind of had the stalling problem when running, but with a little float level adjustment it worked out ok.

Try adjusting your float level, idk if your carb was like the one on my 87 but there should be a metal insert facing the fan behind the air horn that pops out then use the tool to adjust your float level.

You can only adjust the float with the air horn removed. The "plug" of which you speak is actually for the M/C solenoid adjust.

XD learn something new everyday, my carb was my first one I rebuilt, and it suprisingly worked <_<.
