Air conditioning not working

This is what I know: Initially when I turned on the AC there was a whining noise coming from the dash, but I couldn't hear the whining from the engine compartment. Thought it was low on freon. Put in a fourth of a pound and the gauge read in the middle of recommended pressure, still no cold air. The whining continued for awhile and then quite. Put the gauge back on and the pressure read normal then the pressure spiked. Took gauge off and reconnected the gauge and the pressure was good then all of sudden the pressure spiked again. The gauge was connected to the low pressure side tap. I know one of the pipes should be cold, but neither are, and the evaporator coil was replaced 2 years ago. Any ideal what is going on?

The whining sound in the dash sounds like a blower motor/cage problem. Since you have good freon, and no cold airflow, the cage might not be turning, and blowing the [cold] air from the ducts...
Just an idea.
