Hi there
I'm looking at doing an engine conversion from a 1.5L 4G15 (12v i think?) to a 2.0L 4G63T. I am in australia and so dont have the eclipse (would have been the ideal engine to use as it is FWD), so I was going to use an engine from the evo 1-3 with a FWD gearboax. the swap is very straightfoward, however, my concern lies with the ecu. i dont know much about the ecu and harness and want to clear some things up. 1st of all, if i use the engine from an evo, can i use the harness and ECU from it as well (even though i'm not going AWD - i'm not sure if the ecu controls anything with that). I know someone who has done the conversion himself from the US with an eclipse engine and ecu/harness and it worked flawlessly. i have 3 options available
1) (easiest) use an evo 1-3 engine/FWD gearbox and evo ecu and loom
2) use an evo 1-3 engine with an eclipse ecu/harness (sent from the US)
3) (hardest) use an eclipse engine and ecu/harness (all come from the US)
they will all cost me roughly the same though. again i would get the elipse engine straight away (as i know it works), but again i'm not sure, as we have the driver on opisite sides - will that affect anything?? is there anywhere where i can get detailed information on the ecu/harness etc for the 4G63T??
Thanks!

Hey, wish I could be more help, but I honestly don't know. I would think, stick with the ECU that went with whatever engine you decide on. Because not only do you have to worry about different platforms, but also, knowing some other Mitsu cars, the ECUs changed over the years even on the same platform. So I'd try to get an ECU from the same car and year as your new engine. But again, that is just a guess.
Unfortunantly, this non-specific part of the Mitsu forum, gets very little traffic. I think your best bet would be to ask this again in both the Evo and the Eclipse sections, and see what advice they can offer you, as many more people will see your question if you post it there.
Good luck, sorry I couldn't be of more help.
