Toshiba HIR 9011 (9005) [found'em for 18$ each :) ]bulb question

I have a 95 accord and basically want to make my low beams brighter.
I am currently using 5800k 80watt 9006 xenon/krypton bulbs http://www.hid-lights.com/XD55800k.htmlfor the past 8 months with no probs. which basically ups the voltage to around 15 volts -this did make my lights brighter, driving on the well lit west side highway in nyc it made the asses of cars in front of me glow white like never before :evillol: .

I want to try the Toshiba HIR 9011 which is made for high beams on the viper and newer chevy avalanche. The socket is similar to 9005/9006 so I can do a conversion to fit 9006 low beams. The data sheet is here:

13.2 volts gives of -/+ 15% 2500 lumens, so at 15 volts lil under 3000?
The are sold on ebay for 27$ each with 5$ shipping for both=$59 but

If you search 2004 chevy avalanche electrical blah blah..through their catalog it says high beam 9011.} -this is BS read last reply.
I'm worried the fatter bulb head wont fit in my housing and if it is worth buying.
Any comments appreciated.

Take appart that ballest, and 96% odds are that its just a relay. Why not just buy some and tell us how it works? Blinding people with your lights just for shits and giggles to say that you have bright low beams is frowned upon, but I'm sure it would match your personality and your car.

Hmm...I said they are voltage boosters, and they work so who cares?
Second, I did not know that the rear bumpers of cars are people :screwy: . Maybe you should read the post much slower while sober so your brain can catch up.

Ladies... you are both pretty. Keep the arguments to a minimum or I'll have to beat you both with wet noodles.
Electronically speaking, the amount of wattage a filament uses is vaguely correspondent to its lumen output, but not always. Many times you can upgrade from a 65w bulb to an 80w bulb and lose lumens even though the bulb is drawing more amperage. You can also lose focused light if the filament is too large.
The bottom line is that you have to try each one and see which one fits you best. You also have to make sure that the product you're buying is what it says it is. A box that converts to 15v is a little odd in two ways: 1) automotive regulators operate at 14.4v anyway, and 2) why would anyone go to the trouble of converting 14.4v to 15v?
Chances are they are just a relay. If anyone tested them with their analog multimeter, they would see over 14v and be happy with their purchase. Having said that, a relay can cause a huge difference in light output. Many GM cars have their stock headlights supplied with a 14 gauge wire that considerably restricts light output. Many of us have discovered that installing a relay on our GM vehicles has boosted light output considerably.
The quest for brighter light is a wierd one to me. If its adequate then don't worry about it. Anything else is a 4% improvement to you and a 230% pain in the butt to oncoming traffic. I guarantee they cause more accidents than they prevent.
I personally have chosen to improve the focus of my lights. That way I can put as much light as I want where I want, not just blind oncoming traffic with an unfocused beam like 90% of those aftermarket solutions do. I have incredible vision with my 55w low beams because its properly focused. If I switched to big wattage with a long, unfocused element I would just blind my fellow driver and not get any more light where I needed it.

By the way, did a little research on those bulbs, the orgional company who invented and patented them is no longer making them due to short bulb life and is leasing out the patent to other manufacturs.

Ya, they were patented by G.E but shortly later Toshiba bought it and redesigned the bulb which toshiba distributed to dodge for their viper models and to chevy for their high beams on the avalanche. From what I read Toshiba is the only one making reliable and durable HIR 9011/2's.
As far as the relay thing, I have a 10 year old Honda Accord EX-V6 so maybe I was not getting 14.4v cause of an old alternator, but again those things -relay, ballast..whatever did make my lights a little brighter. I do have a multimeter I bought from radioshack which i need to buy batteries for, so i'll test the output on the 9006 socket of the ballast and the stock to see the voltage difference someday. I'm ganna call the gm parts store to make sure those 9011's are toshibas and just order the damn things and testem out..ill post pics.
As far as my low beam patter, my head lights are pointed parallel to the road I believe; in other words the light is pointed straight ahead. There is no large spot of light in front of my car (though I noticed some white light on the ground since I installed the voltage boosters, good for cats?) like some other cars have which is useless; I want to see things above the road from a distance (like cars, people, illegals aliens) and not the texture of the asphalt in front of me. I have walked 25-30 feet in front of my car; while standing and looking at the lights -there was no glare. Standind or crouching a few feet to the side of the line of interest there was also no glare. I do valet parking and I use my car to shuttle my partners back when we park far; sometimes we get a stick shift and I like to drive it (no I don't burn the clutch or do anything crazy); looking at my car from the rear view mirror there was no glare from my car, not even from the side mirrors.
Happy now?
P.S The worst is those stupid bluish 7500k+ HID lights on suv's, those are the most distracting and blinding lights, and they are legal.

Well I checked the multimeter a day ago. 12.8 volts battery while car off. 14.4v battery while car on. I could not check the voltage coming from the 9006 socket while the car was on because the needles on the multimeter were too thick and wouldn't go into the pin holes. The voltage coming from the ballast while the car was off/on was 15.40-15.45 volts. So I'm happy with that.
I ordered the 9011's from gm but it is special ordered and should take "
7-10" days from Monday I guess.

Well this sucks. Assholes sent a cheap shit ac delco phillips 65 watt halogen bulb that just fits the 9011 socket. It even says HIR1 on the bottom of the bulb which of course is bs. So much for "genuine gm parts." I sent them an angry return request. We'll see what happens.
