yesturday the SES light came on. i reset the ecm because i get a PO400 once and a while and figured thats what it was. well today, the light came back on again. i threw a scanner on it and it came back with P0441 - Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow. i cleared the code and on my way home from work tonight, it came back on again. This is the first time the truck has thrown this code. anyone know what could be causing this problem? one thought was that the gas cap was not secure but it is tight. i would appreciate any suggestions.

Re-tighten your gas cap. 3 clicks is all it takes. :) But seriously, having already checked that, it could be a number of things...to include tank balance valves, a rotten piece of rubber tubing or worse yet...

You're one of those peple that keep clicking the handle on the gas pump after the first time it stops.....

Excess fuel at the top of the tank in areas meant for vapor can suck raw gas up into recovery canisters and the like. When the canister sucks in fluid rather than vapor, it can be slightly less than cooperative for a while... erm until it basically dries out.

Hey ZL1POWER69.
If you ever figure out what's throwing out that P0441 code, Post the answer please.. I have been fighting this problem on my son in law's 97' Blazer for 6 months with no freaking luck.
Thanks, Dino

That one is a little more that a gas cap.
Hit me with a e mail [email protected] and I will e mail you a pdf on the repair flow chart for it tonight when time permits.
Strange on the codes 400 code is for a Z engine and code 441 is for a w code engine 4.3
Is yours a W or a Z engine. Did the code 400 only come up one time?

gas cap is completely tight, always. and yes, i have been known ocassionally to bump the total up a few more cents after it clicks off. it has never thrown that code before yesterday though and has come on 2 more times since creating this thread.

Are you sure about the code no P0441?
A 97 does not show a code 441 code on it.

I found even though my gascap was tight, it was binding and not tightening all the way.

I put a bead of light grease on the threads and it goes all the way tight now.

When it binds, it will click but won't be tight at all.

Also, did you just fill the tank before this happened?

Just to let you know, only fill on low until it clicks off.

Overfilling the tank will put fuel into your EVAP system and cause the problems you are seeing.

The vent for the EVAP system is 2-3 inches below the top of the fill pipe.

The code P0446 is a canister vent solenoid code. But could be caused by several things.

so it will eventually dry out?
