Hey Guys!

My 2000 GMC Sierra 5.3L is hard to start. It's got about 68,000 miles and it doesn't seem to matter if the engines hot or cold, it has to crank over for a few seconds before it will start, sometimes i'll have to try it more than once.
Otherwise it runs great. Have tried disconnecting vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator to see if there was any fuel in the line, but nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

It would be good to hook a fuel pressure gauge up to the fuel rail to see what your starting pressure is. Should be around 60 PSI to start up.

I agree, I have had that same problem before with my '96 and it was the fuel pump pressure being weak after double checking it with a fuel pressure tester. mine was at 40 psi instead of the 60 plus psi that it needs at start-up.

They are known to have fuel pressure regulators go bad.

Hey Guys,

I didn't have access to a fuel pressure tester, so I took a chance and bought a new fuel pressure regulator. But, I'm still having the same problem. Any other suggestions?:banghead:

Thanks

Have you checked for any stored trouble codes? As far as the fuel system you are going to have to do as told above and get a fuel pressure guage and see what pressure when the truck is running. When was the last time you changed your fuel filter?

No, haven't checked for trouble codes. I changed the fuel filter back in august of '04, at about 55,000 miles. I guess I'll have to take it to a garage and have them run some tests.

Thanks
