Uh oh, I bought an Acura!

I saw it on the way home last week and I stopped to get the number Friday, on the for sale sign... "too many mods to list, please call for info." So I made a list of things I wanted to ask about and before I could ask he listed off parts for 5 minutes!

It's a 92 Acura Integra GS 2-door hatchback, 5-speed, black, sunroof, power windows & DL, tinted windows, original tranny has 232,000mi, stock B18A block and head with 110,00mi, full MSD performance ignition (Ignition control box, blaster coil, Pro Cap, 8.5mm wires), Megan Racing header, A'pexi S-AFC II (Air Flow Converter), ram air intake, Votec TB spacer (which adds a crazy "turbo spool" sound between 15-25% throttle), Skunk2 Racing intake manifold, Spoon Sports Racing ECU, new OEM clutch, new tires on ICW 15" GT Sports, new alternator, new OEM axles and front brake rotors, new interior (from ugly/beige to black/gray), WICKED angel eye projection headlights, Alteza tail lights, NETAMI Ltd. Edition muffler, IndiGlow racing gauges, short throw shifter, Optima yellow top battery and it's already lowered 1.75" with DropZone springs.

Wow, so much more I can't remember it all! Everything I've ever wanted is already installed!

The best part... he is an Acura Certified Technician, so I know it's all been done right. Another good thing is the only reason he's selling it is because he bought a 99 Civic Si for $4,500! And with two kids his wife won't let him keep both cars and a house payment, so there's nothing wrong with it. He took me for a drive in it Friday and I was just blown away with how smooth, and fast, it is! He's only asking for $3,800, and the car books $4,800! Not to mention he has put well over $3,000 in performance upgrades on it. All I need is my retirement money ($4400) and it will be mine! I can't wait! I finally feel like my last three years here have been worth something. I was so excited Friday I didn't know what to do with myself, I couldn't even sit down, I thought I was going to get sick from the anxiety!

I will have it this Friday, when I borrow dad's camera I'll upload some sweet pics for you all... OK, you can quit drooling on your keyboards!

LOL - Thanks, but no thanks, I'll never git rid of her!

Got it Friday, took the rest of the day off and got it registered and insured so I wouldn't have to wait to drive it. I've been waiting for a deal like this for years and I couldn't have bought it from a better guy. I learned to drive on a 5-speed and after driving an auto for 6 years it feels GREAT to be back in a 5-speed, it will take me a few weeks to get totally comfortable with it again.

Oh my, I forgot to mention, he said it ran a 15.3 before he installed the MSD Ignition Control Box, Power Cap, Button, Blater Coil and 8.5mm Super Conductor Wires... what will it run now? We'll have to wait to see, when I get really comfortable and get some practice launching and speed-shifting I'll let you know.

Should have some pics up Sunday!

nice find, she looks in good shape.

Nearly flawless, a few barely noticable dings (only on the driver's side), and a minor dent about the size of my fist on the bottom of the driver's side door... I may replace the door since it's a little off track and I noticed the bottom corner of the door rubs the body, so need to get that taken care of, plus there's a short in that door causing the power locks to blow it's fuse... might just fix it instead... power steering pump needs rebuilt, a minor oil leak, but, it's the oil pan gasket, easy fix since I'm going to drain her soon and give her some new blood! Other than that, it's in excellent condition, no rust, no accidents, although some one did back into it and crumpled the hood into the driver's side fender before he bought it, so it's got a new fender and hood which were red. He used 5 cans of black and 2 cans of clear on the hood alone, which looks decent, he was planning on getting a CF hood anyway, but the fender... wow! I can't believe it's spray paint!

I still get a funny-happy-tingly-feeling when I get in her, it may just take awhile for me to adjust to having a nice ride, getting stares and people trying to race me. I know I'll win, so I don't even bother with it. Is it worth losing your licence, better yet, your NEW CAR! TAKE IT TO THE TRACK!

The only thing I don't like about this car... It's not a Chevy!
I really miss that chevy pride, but the Integra has always been one of my favorite imports, especially the 90-93 models, I like the front end more than the 94-up and the hatchback looks sooo much better than the standard 2/4door models.

Anyway, I will be keeping the 92 Cav, so I'll have two 92's... lol...
Sell the Daytona (fu#$*%& piece of #@%&%*!) since it just doesn't want to run right, or at all sometimes... and put that cash into the Cav... body work, paint (black, of course!) and hopefully VERY SOON some engine work, it runs like a clock but it's leaking oil like mad, main seals, and the 223,000 miles has taken it's toll on the auto, slipping occasionally, but still has at least another 20,000-80,000, I hope. Once the wife learns to drive a 5-speed (not on the Integra!) I may FINALLY swap it over for economy. A REAL intake, not just the K&N square "better flow, less filtration" and stock box. I still love the sound of the deep Chevy exhaust at idle, you can really tell it's got the extra .4 liters, just missing four intake valves an about 3-grand in boltons!! The Integra sounds great too! Louder and far more expensive sounding, lol.

What a complete blast to drive, talk about torque! It's got plenty at any RPM, at half throttle it will leave the Cavy in it's exhaust fumes. HP is great at low revs, but let's not forget this is a 1.8, it lives at 4,000+RPM, you can feel it pulling, and pulling harder, and at 6000RPM it's like someone hit a "little red button" as it really presses you into the seat before you shift...

This whole experience has been life changing for me, It's like meeting a hot girl and then dating her, you just can't believe she's with YOU, and when you are away from her it's all you can think about, know what I mean? I got a baby boy due in a month or two, and may have a new job with less work and more pay! It's really changed my attitude and more importantly my self esteem. I used to think I was going nowhere and nothing was going to change, just get worse. Negative thinking all the time, now I see things differently... positive!

I know exactly what you mean, I will be doing future mods myself or at least with the assistance of the prior owner, as he is an Acura Certified Tech. It's not like I bought the car to save the hassle and time and money, it was for the whole deal, I mean a basically paid less than book value for the car and with it got over $3500 worth of mods. You make a good point, my sense of accomplishment for finding and buying this car is greater than I ever imagined!

I'm planning on shooting some HQ pics this afternoon, look for them soon...

< So, I have a dilema... what should I do about my "4dr92cavi4cyl" name? I never intended to keep it, then I got "AF dependant" so what to do, what to do... make a new account for the Integra and keep this one for cavy stuff? Or kill this account, make a new one for both and put "formerly 4dr92cavi4cyl"?

Anybody have a suggestion for a new screen name?

Not to burst your bubble but the guy pulled a fast one on you, I assure you thats not a vtec motor or "head" its just the stock motor that comes in that car, from the engine bay shot it looks bad, wiring all over the place...just a mess I surely wouldent let this "technician" touch my car.

and honestly you overpaid, all those parts actually make the value decrease unless you actually find someone that wants that stuff then I geuss you got what you wanted.

didnt mean to burst your bubble like I said but I figured I should let you know about the whole "vtec" situation

Whoa! Thanks for pointing that out, it did say "1.8 with 2.0 VTEC head OPTIONAL" on the for sale sign. I missunderstood that. I just called him about it and he was selling the head separate. He said since it ran so well he didn't want to tear it down to put it on unless something else needed to be done. You are right, however, this guy was very honest about everything and I highly doubt that he "pulled a fast one on me." It was my fault for assuming it was on there... kind of a bummer, but now I know there's more that can be done, and I know what I have.

If you hadn't pointed that out I would have looked like an idiot from here on out... lol, if I didn't already! Thank you...

I have edited and re-worded the earlier posts because of this, adding Brand names to most of the parts in the first post, now that I have it and can see it for myself.

NEW PICS!!!

YES! That's about the only thing I don't like on the car, plus every set of Altezza's have a flaw and one always ends up with condensation. I like the lights, just not the chrome. Black or CF would be rockin'!

Took it Bristol, Thunder Valley, and ran consistent 16's, quickest was a 16.3 @ 85mph. What a blast! There were a few other 2nd gen DA's (Integra) with nothing done under the hood running high 17's. So I know that with all these bolt-ons it's more than a second faster than stock. Saw a 3rd gen Z24 run a 16.8...

BTW... IT"S A BOY! My son was born last week and is doing well, I'm so proud of my wife, I told her she made it look easy, like she had done it before. There's nothing I have enjoyed as much as holding him, and looking into the future...
