Cop on glue...

Ok this has to be the most retarded thing I have heard of to date. I was driving home from work today and stopped at a 4-way. Well I laid into the throttle off the stop sign, didn't spin didn't exceed the speed limit. Well I get about 200 meters up the road and look in my rear view mirror only to see blue and red blinkers.
Figuring I had don't nothing wrong I just played it cool. Well according to this "town" cop (not RCMP), the tip I have on my exhaust is some sort of illegal (flaring device). Apparently because my exhaust pipe is 2" and my tip is 3", he claims that by increasing the diameter of the tip I'm trying to gain performance like street racers or some crazy shit and that it isn't legal. So he want's me to remove the tip and drive with just the bare muffler until I get a tip that matches the size of the exhaust piping. WTF!!!!:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
So in absolute disbelief I just had to confirm this crazy claim. I drove away with a warning and as soon as I was out of his sight I flipped open my phone and called my uncle who's a mechanic and does exhaust jobs on a regular basis to see if he's ever heard of such a claim. He's done countless exhaust jobs, and has never heard anything like it and told me that if he ever pulls me over and tries to give me a ticket, to ask to see where in the traffic act that such a law exists. Fair enough. Well that still wasn't good enough for me. I went to my local RCMP detatchment for a real cops opinion. She couldn't see how that would be illegal either. So just to be sure she refferenced me to the highway patrol unit in a town located about 20 mins from home. So I called up the detatchment there. The officer there said that it's something he would never even think of nor look for as a violation, nor did he know about such a law in existence. So he got a hold of one of the members of the highway patrol, the guys who know the traffic act inside and out. Well, the officer he got a hold of couldn't answer my question either, it's like the town cop that pulled me over just pulled these crazy conclusion out of his ass. The officer I got a hold of in the highway detatchment was supposed to call me back if he found out anything but it's been 6 hours and I've heard nothing back. Hmm this is really starting to sound sketchy to me.
I'm running the stock pipe, stock cat, 2" piping, 2.25" inlet and outlet Magnaflow muffler, and a 3" tip. It's loud but I don't see in anyway that it's illegal, it's below the noise pollution level I know that for sure. I think he's just mad that I took off so fast and didn't shift until 5500 rpm so I'm sure my exhaust was screaming at the time.
I think this guys a real dick and no one can back up his claim. So if this guy pursues me again I'm going to ask him to show me where this law exists, why 2 other officers, and a highway patrol officer cannot back up his claim, and why he hasn't tracked down the other 10's of thousands of people who have the same or similar setup of exhausts, give a big smile and satisfyingly use 4 simple words for him if tries to give me a ticket. "See you in Court"

Most cops are @$$holes, "the badge = power", all depends on how their day is going. I got pulled over and got a 5-day tag for f*cking light blue blinker light bulbs, i couldn't have them because they SOMEHOW resemble a cop car? Bullsh*t. But yet I see people drive around all the time with their entire headlight more blue then my little blinkers were. They're all @$$holes when it comes to car stuff. My apologies for the junior high language but this topic really pisses me off.

so im confused, are you saying he was high on glue?? also, im not taking the cops side here but why does anyone need an exhaust tip bigger then the pipe itself ??

So let me get this straight, with a cop behind you.. you slammed on the gas and shifted higher rmps with aftermarket exhaust. You deserverd to get pulled over.

Also blue tinted headlights are not illegal in most states but in EVERY STATE you must have either clear or ambur corner lights. It's like bitching about getting pulled over for having blue taillights, same idea

Driving like a douchebag means you deserve to get pulled over. But he wouldn't write you a ticket b/c flared exhaust tips aren't illegal. To make them illegal would outlaw plenty of cars that are unmodified, b/c some cars come like that from the factory. Heck, LS Sport Cavalier did, right?
However, the proper response to this cop would be: "Thank you for making me aware of the regulation. I apologize for the inconvenience it may have posed to you. Have a good day."
Why? Well, yeah, he's a dickhead. He's a dickhead who's got more power than you and you shouldn't agitate him. If he didn't write you a ticket, it doesn't matter. If you use colorful language, he can probably find a reason to give you a ticket anyways.
If you want to go to court, go ahead and be a dick to him. You'll have the charges dropped, and you may have won the pissing contest. You still wasted gas, time, and potentially pay (if you could've been at work) to measure the size of your penis against the size of the cops.
Moral of the Story: Grow up.

Would be nice if the cop that pulls you over had a violation on his patrol car that you could point out....(taillight out, bald tire, cracked windshield.....or the biggie...a computer monitor in plain view of the driver (thats a distraction you know).
Also, cops that speed down the highway (80mph or more) with NO lights or siren in use tick me off.Under those conditions the cop MUST follow normal traffic laws,he cant make his own.Heck,a fireman in his own vehicle can only exceed the speed limit by 5-10 mph during an emergency with lights and siren blaring. Why do the Dunkin Donuts cops get to play street racer, when there is no emergency??
(thats wasting fuel, they should pay any extra usage out of their own pocket).

Also ambulance drives can only go over 10 mph, firefighters when in their personal vehicle cannot speed however and if you ever been in a firetruck you'd know that excessive speed is just not an option

Just for the record, I wasn't aware that the cop was there, he was not in plain sight. Second I wasn't trying to stunt or the like as I mentioned. Maybe I was in excess with taking off. This isn't a pissing contest with a cop. It was all about finding out whether such a law existed and how legitimate his reasoning was, considering an exhaust tip is nothing more than a cosmetic feature of the car, or if he was a power hungry town cop who has no juristiction outside of town limits, looking for any reason to pick on a young guy.

And the key phrases:
"I was in excess taking off"
DING DING DING
"How legitimate his reasoning was"
Doesn't matter, now does it? Pissing off any cop is just a bad idea and best avoided.
"He was a power-hungry town cop"
Probably right. So? Doesn't change the fact he can pull you over and make your life hell. Any cop can. So why bother bitching about a single incident? Instead of trying to fix the one cop, fix what provokes the cop, eg; your excessive speed.
"no jurisdiction outside of town limits"
You don't want to pull that card. You'd be surprised who has jurisdiction and where. Everyone thinks that the realm of jurisdiction is smallest at the bottom (local) and biggest on top (federal), when its actually the other way around.
"pick on a young guy"
He probably was. Young drivers have the most accidents, break the most laws, etc. Is it okay to profile, probably not. But ya know what, he's going to anyways. And the more you take off like that the more you give him a reason to pull over young drivers. I don't want to hear "but I'm a safe driver, etc," he pulled you over for taking off too fast, thus he had a reason and whatever rebuttal you provide will be contradicted by your actions that day. So long as you continue to drive like that you're part of the problem, end story.

something tells me that if it were you overallcoma, you would be posting the same thing. its not the fact that they are power hungry douches that got beat up in high school and are now taking it out on others, its that why is he wasting your time and his. He should be out on the streets looking for the idiots running stone cold red lights. thats where the problem is. when you aer sitting at a light where are the cops when the suv runs a light? oh wait they are pulling over kids who arent doing anything wrong. i have a three inch tip on my muffler also and if i get pulled over for it ill ask the cop to show me where it is in writing that says it is illegal. also why is it posted cop on glue?

i think u basically did nothing wrong...people ACCELERATE ALL THE TIME...its how u drive...so you put ur foot down hard on the gas...big fucckin deal what a joke....there are ppl all over the world who speed excessivly and murder ppl and random other laws that are broken that are way more important then ACCELERATING....and the cop wasted 30-40 minutes WARNING...WARNING...someone not to accelerate to fast...total bullshit...what pisses my off about cops is ppl think they are all great...or all bad...truth is it depends on the cop and the situation...end of story
(i on the other hand have no grudges aginst any cop(s) because in the past 3 years *KNOCK ON WOOD* i have only gotten 1 ticket and i got PBJ for it....iv got 15% tint....a loud ass muffler, and i drive wrecklessly...if i get pulled over...i might learn...prob not tho)

I agree with you completely, I do not hate cops in fact I respect what they do. In fact I've met some very nice officers. That is why I said in the first place that I asked the opinion of 3 RCMP members to see if the town cops' claim was true or whether the cop was just being super uptight.
I don't consider my driving to be "reckless", I've been driving for 4 years now and have not recieved a ticket or had any traffic infractions.
