Hi there, I ahve posted some threads here about a year ago.
now I have the money I can get a skyline...
but I love both cars, 3000gt and Skyline GTR R32 but I do not know which one to get...
Of course, I want a performant car, but I just can ot make up my mind
My reason of posting here, I need to know how is the 3000gt. tell me how and why it is fun to drive, is it performant ( some guys told me it was too heavy to be worth to mod...
Anyway...thanks for the precious informations

1) how old are you, and how much money are you talking
2) which country do you live in
3) if you are listening to anyone who says any car is too heavy to be worthwhile to mod, buy a Honda.

skyline has more parts available, its gonna out do the 3000gtvr4 in performance
if you wanna highway beast, the vr4 is killer for that, but from the jump, the skyline has all the basics you need, handles wonderfull...not saying the vr4 cant do all of these things, just can do it as well
now if you want a sex machine with power that can still be modded heavily, then get the 3000gt :)

beat civics :)
no seriously, I am seeking for some performance...I am just an aprentice so I do not really want the big and hard to drive cars.
So a little performant is what I need...
and also I want to be a little the kind of "showoff" with a sound system, I do not think it is good in a skyline...and thinking about it, too much people wants the skyline so...

yea, but its still a rare car, well in the states that is
if your looking for decent power to just have fun on the streets with, than get you a vr4, sounds like you want us to talk you into it anyway :)
320hp 315lbs tq
13.6 in the 1320 top speed has been anywhere from 165mph to 172mph
very long gears..easy to get in the 400hp range

well that sounds perfect :)
In canada, the law for imports is 15 years, so the 1989 and 1990 R32 are allowed...I start to see too much of them.
back on topic...what about the accel of the car ?
it will surely be a GTO because it is cheaper to import them from japan and also it will be a 1st generation.
about the popup lights, is there a way to change them for normal lights ?

turbo's kick right in, and your gone, not much more to say about that

If you are building a sound system, mass is your friend...
The reason "people" say that the 3000GT is heavy is that the body panels use some pretty heavy gauge steel (at least for a Japanese Car). But while this makes the car heavier it makes it more resistant to vibration.
This means that the car is quieter when highway cruising (it was designed as a GT car) but more important for sound systems, it's less suseptible to resonance within the body panels (I am sure you have hear Civic that did not use enough dynomat to deaden the resonance... You can bearly hear the music over the buzzing).
I dunno about a Skyline but the 3000GT is surprisingly easy to drive... You can try it out buy borrowing someone's Stealth (Canada did not sell Mitsu's until a few years ago)... It's the same car, just different skin...

as far as the lights if im not mistaking you can do a 2nd gen swap and a 99 front end swap both of which will require a new hood ...correct me if im wrong..3sxperformance.com sells the 99front end or you can gets the headlight and buckets off a donor car if its in good shape

if it was me i would get a skyline, becasue ive NEVER seen one in person. They just arent around in the states. Of cousre if they were around...im sure they would lose alot of their apppeal, and i would want my VR-4.
After all, the 3/S body is WAY more attractive than the skyline IMO.
Get whichever you see less of in your area, because the performance of the two vehicles is very close.

I see more skylines than 3kgts I have seen 3 or 4 3kgt in my life, I am not counting the stealths because we have a lot here. but the skylines...
I have seen more of them and too much people want them. I want to cruise and have fun before the performance, yes I want performance but I guess I should consider that I am too young to get a skyline. PLUS if I import one, it will be in a bad shape and I will have to put money on it. I guess I will wait for the Evo5 to be legal and buy this instead. but for now I will get the 3kgt.
I already started to look on websites. I want a 1994 VR4.

what do you mean to young for a skyline? you mean cost or speed?
InfestedShadow
06-01-2006, 12:21 AM
well, the cost is not a problem, but yes the speed...Maybe I should get something a bit less performant for I am a beginner at driving...
edit: by the way, we can make a 1st gen look like a 2nd gen right ?
can I just take the 2nd gen body kit and put it on the 1st gen or I need aftermarket parts ?

You could make 1st gen look like a 2nd but it would just be cheaper to buy a 2nd gen. Maybye you should start off with a SL or base
