Hello all, I have a 95 Honda Passport 3.2L SOHC engine. It developed the timing tensioner(belt) knock and I didn't know at the time what it was.Drove it like that for about 2 weeks and I guess the tensioner finally let the belt jump teeth and jump time. It just lost power and died.It turns over but will not crank.
I have purchased a new timing belt,tensioner,water pump,timing belt idler,and tensioner roller.
I have a Haynes manual to help me,but what I need to know is since it has jumped time and more then likely all the timing marks are off from each other, is there any special procedure I need to do to get the timing back right or just turn the cams and crank to their alignment marks? I have read various threads on doing this job, but never figured this part out.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, if you verify that the marks don't line up, then your belt has jumped. In which case, you can't get anything to line up with the belt on. You have no choice but to remove the belt, then turn the crankshaft until all the marks line up right. You may have to turn the crankshaft as much as two full revolutions to get all the marks lined up as per the haynes manual. Note: this job can be much trickier than the haynes manual leads you to believe. You have a non-interference engine, so you won't cause any major damage, but it may take some trial and error to get the belt on correctly and everything aligned.

Thanks for the info, so all I need to do is just turn the crank until the marks all line up again? I see where you posted to my same question at isuzoo.:sunglasse

I've taken the liberty of generating a PDF for you detailing the overall procedure of doing your timing belt, including alignment. Complete with figures and torque specs. Courtesy of Mitchell.

There are marks on the engine. There are marks on the belt (if you get the right one). There should be instructions on how to properly align it in the timing belt installation kit. I used the Haynes and made out all right. Do you have a plan for the crank bolt? Before removing the belt or after putting the belt on you should only turn the engine by using the crank bolt, not the cam pulleys. Good luck and come back for help! There are several good threads on here discussing timing the engine.

boaz, thanks for the pdf. I've already got it back together and running. Wasn't to bad, I just took my time and didn't get in a hurry. I also had to replace the o2 sensor. Now when I drive for a long distance, I get a code 32(egr), but it doesn't do it all the time and doesn't effect the way it runs.:screwy:
