Just recently a loud knocking sound coming from inside the motor has been coming apparent. It isnt a lifter but more of a louder metal knock sound. It sometimes when I start it has trouble idling and as I watch my tacht it bounces really fast between 200 to 1,200 rpm's and then stops bouncing back and forth after a little while. The CEL has also appeared on the dash. I don't know what else to say and if you have any questions please ask. And be gentle. :frown:

How about you start with the obvious, and pull the code for the CEL.

^^^ Because every time I turn the car off it disappears when I start it up for next time. And then after running it for about 2 minutes or so it comes back on. The CEL light has actually done this before and then disappears once the ignition switch is flipped. Sorry for not being more specific, I was very tired when I wrote this thread.

That maybe the case, but if it came on, it's still stored in the ECU, and it still came on for a reason. LOL. Go pull it.

Alright, yes a newbie question. I dont care. I did a google search and didnt find anything. I then looked in my manual and it said if the CEL comes on take it to a dealer. Can someone give me a link with some good directions on pulling the ECU so that I can get a code and diagnose this. Its getting louder and louder.

YOu don't need to remove it.

Double check you have the right pin for the ground

Here is where a datalogger comes in handy, if you can find a local member with one, that is alot quicker. But if not, the method above works fine.

Dealer will charge you $70 to pull a code, and then no matter what is wrong, will tell you you need a new tranny, driveshaft, headlight fluid, and alternator, but luckily they can do all of that in just under a month for the price of your soul and first born. Stay away from them. I'd rather let a toddler fool around under the hood, in the long run it will probably do less damage and works for fruit loops.
