96 JGC Transmission Shift 1-2 problem

About 10,000 miles ago I proudly rebuilt my own transmission and posted my results her on automobile forums. I even got rid of my quadratrac for a 231 transfer case and all is well. Recently my tranny has been actiung up at low speed. If you take off normally it shifts like a champ. If you are driving slow like through a parking lot, the transmission shifts back an forth from 1st gear to 2nd gear like it can't decide what gear to be in. What do you think? I think it must be a sensor/actuator or some kind of electrical quirk. Doesn't this transmission shift electronically and have a separate computer? I don't like going to the dealership because I am afraid they will milk me. Maybe this is an easily fixed problem. I need help.

Also the motor, on occasion, goes into a funk where it won't idle (by the way I repalced the IAC and thought it was the problem), then moments later runs fine and won't act up for weeks. This one I definately don't want to go to the dealership. Intermittent problems are hard to detect and you end up spending alot of money for guessing. Awaiting your help on this one too.

What are the odds my main computer is going bad. Other problems I have are the air bag light is on 75% of the time, cruise control works 75% of the time, drivers presets for driver 1 and 2 act strangley, and my sunvisor garage door openers will not program. Most of this stuff I could care less about but thought it could be related to a failing computer.

My order of priority are:

1.) Shift problem
2.) Occasional rough idle/stall.
3.) Other misc. problems

Based on what I've read here, it sounds like your crank position sensor.

Do a search here and on the Cherokee forum for cps and crank position sensor and I think you'll see your problems are similar.

Let me guess, it doesn't always show the symptoms?
