E-type ignition problem

Car starts, but when it is running it will cutout, and die. if I turn the key off, then back on it starts running again.
(sometimes, i'll be driving down the road, accelerating, and the engine just dies, like the key is turned off, nothing happens untill I take to key to off and then back to run, then it starts running again.) it only happens intermittenly.
I think it is the ignition switch, or a relay, but I havent been able to find the problem. does anyone know what it could be/how to fix it?
