Weird electrical problems

I have a 1999 intrigue that's been having bizarre electrical problems. Basically the power drops out randomly while driving. The headlights dim, the dash dims and the A/C shuts off. I brought it in to be fixed twice and both times they claimed it was a loose battery cable, which they said they fixed, however within a month or so it starts doing it again. :banghead: Could it be something else? I've noticed the illuminated dash buttons (like the heater/ac buttons) get ridiculously hot (they'd burn me if I left my finger on them). This seems like something other than a loose battery cable...

this sounds like it could be something with the altenator.

the hot radio buttons are typical for the Intrigue.

does the A/C actually turn off or does the fan (blower motor) speed go down and then back up.

The a/c goes off. The light on the a/c button goes off. The fan seems to stay constant, but I haven't really paid that close of attention to the fan speed...:uhoh:

I was having problems with my 99 intrigue. everyone kept telling that it was my altenator. My alt was either not charging or it was over charging, finally 400.00 dollars later I had a short in the wire that runs from the alt to the back of the fuse box. Hope it helps

I had similar problems on my 99 Old's Intrigue. I had a multitude of other electrical problems: headlights would come on and go off intermittently until I manually turned the lights on; directional display in rear view mirror would flicker (or disappear) when A/C or heater turned on; cruise control would not work; A/C would stop altogether after a while (including the display lights); and the rear passenger window would not operate (either at the driver's door panel or the rear passenger's). I took the car into a local automotive electric service center and after some diagnostic testing they determined that some of the wiring to the ignition switch was bad. Also the right half of my instrument panel had no lights - this was a separate problem - all the bulbs had burned out on the one side). They fixed the wiring (and replaced the bulbs). Everything now works great, including the rear passenger window. The total bill was $295. I was actually expecting worse.
