no motor, 5 speed, but the manuals coming out for a TH350 with a shift kit that i have in my garage, for the motor im currently building a 400hp 355, got a complete interior(mint) which is blue, ive got a 4th gen with 3.73 gears rearend somewhere in storage that im going to put in it, its rust free, fairly straight, but im going to prep it then send it off to get painted

is it a T/A or was it a 6cyl car? why not keep it a manual. 5 speed third gens are getting harder and harder to come by. tko 5 speed would be a direct swap. more fun to drive too.

I always wondered why the T5 on the F-body didn't hold up well to alot of torque but the T5 In the 5.0 stangs were able to handle some pretty decent power numbers. Very strange to me.

do gm and ford use the same t5?

Internally they are the same. Or at least I believe they are considering the rebuild kits for both are universal. I know the bellhousing is obviously not the same but considering they have the same internals. Ford should have run into the same issue's GM did with the T5 on the 350's.

i wounder if anyone (like magazines) have tested this. if not someone should. grab a t5 out of a 5.0 mustang, change bellhousings, bolt it to a SBC and see how durable it is compared to the gm t5.

Well, first the 5.0 is a ford motor, and as we all know, ford motors are underpowered by chevy standards, so with less power, the trans would hold up better.

Also, torque plays a big factor in trans reliability. A 5.7L obviously has a lot more torque than a 5.0, and even the 305s had more torque because of the different bore/stroke ratio.

The torque numbers on both 305 and 302 is 300lbs. I believe the 350 was like 15 lbs more, thats not a huge difference. Plus there are some 5.0 Stang's with T5 making mega power numbers. I don't understand how a T5 Stang is doing regular trips to the drag strip knocking off 10's but a 350 was too powerful for a T5?. Doesn't make sense to me.

thought the L98/B2L was rated at 345lbs of torque? i agree, it still makes no sense

320lbs in 86 , 330lbs in 87 - 89 and 345 lbs 89 - 92

it can handle the torque, it can't handle the coolness of a camaro.

heh, yeah.

Maybe the weight of the Stang vs Camaro... don't know the numbers but if the Stang was lighter it would explain some things.

Hey Babs, is it a T5??? If so, is it in good shape??? If so you wanna sell it???

I strongly beleive it would all be in the chassis, in which the fox body abosorbed more of the toque shock vs. a f-body (in stock form).

And I'm with Rally, why such a pussy motor in a 355, GO BIG!

Maybe the Navy surplus depot can hook you up with a used nuclear reactor, you can laugh your ass off past the pumps for next 50 years or so

Hey (in line with your ridiculously large engine suggestions) why not jam a blown 458,235 CI small block with a 25,000 shot of nitrous and a oct-turbo? :cwm27:

ahhh, I was just poking fun... Everytime Babs suggests an engine it's at the extreme end of the spectrum. Like for instance, if you read some of the threads about engine swaps, like say a 305 to 350, LS1 to LS6, or whatever, he always says something like "I'd go with a 738 CI small block"... something that basically has no streetability.

Hey Babs, I was up in Canada once and like, all the restaurants I went to had sweet breads and stuff like that... is that the norm up there, or was I going to all the wrong places?
