2001 Z24 tranny code

who knows what transmission is in the 2001 Z24 cavlier with a manual? i know its a getrag, but i cant find out which model... or if anyone knows where i can find new parts for the transmission that would be great too because all i even really need is new synchros and a new 2nd gear set...

I'm curious because it sounds like you had the same problem as I have now.
My 03 cavalier will not stay in 2nd gear..... I'm thinking it's the syncro as well

yes that is what it was, but i ended up just tearing it out and completely rebuilding it. the metal from the synchro had taken out my ouput shaft bearing as well so it needed a complete overhaul.

Just for future reference if someone searches its an F23 - its stamped right on top of it.

Still an F23, but didn't think you needed the RPO code... Yes the 00-05 j-bodies have the M86. GM had 2 versions of the F23 that are used here in the US.

The M86 is also found in these cars as well...

The MG3 F23 is found in 04-07 saturn vue which was made to handle the heavier GVW.
