Lifter tick question...

Okay so like any other dsm with more than 80k miles on the motor my car has lifter tick. It used to be every once in awhile like when I would come to a stop for awhile but, it would go away while I started driving. I changed my oil(full synthetic) yesterday and went out last night and I noticed it was getting horribly worse. It not only was REALLY loud when I came to a stop but, it also made the noise while I was driving. The clicking noise sounds like a piece of cardboard(playing card) in a fan or bike wheel. I noticed if I let it sit idle for a few minutes or shut the car off and let it cool down then start it up the sound goes away for awhile then comes back. Is this still lifter tick or could this be something horribly worse? I remember someone saying something about a bad rod bearing causing a similiar noise. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

A bad rod bearing will cause a similiar sounding noise, but on a MUCH MUCH worse scale and the more you drive the car the louder and louder it will get. A quick check to make sure it's not your rod bearings is to pull off the oil pan and the rod caps and then inspect the bearing (inside and outside) for any wearing, scarring, or grooves. If all 4 of them turn out to be in good condition, then your problem still is lifter tick. You could install a set of 3rd gen revised lifters and lifter tick will be no more.

Yeah I know what lifter tick sounds like. My car has had a minor case of lifter tick for awhile now.
Anyway, today my car wasn't making the noise, just a quiet lifter tick. So, I took my car out again and it is just like it was before, just a minor case of lifter tick that goes away when I pull the oil pressure up a bit or start driving. So, I am almost positive that the noise was just some nasty lifter tick. Could changing your oil temporarily make your lifter tick worse? It got loud right after I put some fresh full synthetic in her.
I have thought about putting some 3rd gen lifters in it but, I would rather put my money into something else for now. Thanks for the input everyone.

yes ! it good to let the oil get old little bit, fully syntec oil is design for that, I change my oil every 3k mile or 2.5k mile. not every 3 month.

Changing to fully synthetic could cause a louder lifter tick because it cleans up "buildup" in your engine and could make tolerances a little bigger, therefore causing a little bit worse lifter tick.

So no no modification needed.
