6-bolt down

Well I finally got my car finished yesterday afternoon, fired it up and it ran for about a minute and a half then made a really shitty "ka-clunk" sound and died. After that it would ever fire again. I dont have a compression gauge but their isnt shit for compression in #3. Dont know what happened, any ideas? I figure I have to pull the head either way.:banghead: :banghead:

Pull off the pan and make sure you didn't forget to tighten the rold bolts on that cylinder. I'm willing to bet that something let go and the piston smacked the valves in that cylinder.

It was a used motor, so I never had it apart, but I did inspect the bottom end and put on a new oil pan gasket. I also pulled the valve cover off and it didn't look like any valves were stuck. I dont know I am going to try and pull the head tonight or in the morning. Any other ideas. :dunno:

I would still pull off the pan again and check all the rod caps and stuff. They might have taken one off to inspect the bearings before they sold it in order to make sure they weren't selling a bad motor and forgot to tighten one of them down or something. I wouldn't pull the head unless you absolutley have to, it's 10x as much work as pulling the pan and doing a quick check. Also the valve may only be bent a little bit and would probably not appear "stuck" from the top. But again, it's just my :2cents:

I have watched the piston and it moves fluidly in the cylinder, also there isn't any noise when i crank the motor over. So i dont see how it could be anything in the bottom end. If no one has any other ideas, I will check that before I pull the head. ;)

That all depends on how long it ran with bent valves or broke them. IMO your gonna need a 3 angle valve job after bending valves if you did not hurt the head to bad.

Not necessarily, he could just throw in some new valves and call it good (although I do not recommend this, I always check the angles on my valves before installing them) but it would be and easier fix.

Probably guides for sure if you bent the vavles and possibly new seats too if they are bad, but I would replace the guides regardless, just another one of those "God damnit why didn't I do that when it was apart?" things
