Holy boost leak batman!

SO my car had been a bit sluggish till around 3k rpm. It was kinda like that when I bought it so I figured it was okay.

I built the intake leak checker today (15 bucks well spent) and then put it on my intake and pressurized it. Huge hiss. I couldn't get any pressure to build. I listened around and put my hand by the bov and there was air surging from in under it. It wasn't seated right. The 2g Bov gasket blows imo. I definately need to get an after market. So I used some silicone and sealed that bad boy up. I figured that can't effect my performance too much.

My PCV valve wasn't closing so I went and replaced that. And there was still a small hiss of the bov actually leaking. I atrributed that to it probably not functioning for quite a while and called it a day and reassembled.

I took it out for a spin and wow thats a world of difference. It was always quicker then my 2.4l GS so i figured great. But this thing rips down the road now. :)

Moral of the story check your car for boost leaks if it's turbo and you just bought it. You would be amazed at what you find.

So uh anyone selling an UICP fit for a 1g bov? Thats the kinda im replacing it with.

Update: I just scored a dirt cheap 1g bov on ebay 21 bucks shipped. God I love holidays when no one is on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8069456813&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Nice fix! 2g BOV doesn't use a gasket of any kind though as far as I can remember, it's just clamped into the hose/intake pipe, IIRC. The valve itself will leak somewhat at pretty low pressure though. The 1g unit is much better, but then you will have an actual gasket to worry about. Before installing whatever UICP you go with, check with a straight edge to be sure the flange is flat, otherwise you will be fighting a never ending battle with leaks there. That goes for any other aftermarket part that uses flanges too, like TB elbows. I found after fighting leaks for 4 years that a quick trip to my machinist to toss these things on the belt sander would fix all leaks and save me a shitload of time and aggrevation. ;)

on the BOV when I unbolted the clamp and removed the valve there was an odd shaped rubber around it. IT looked like it was glued on with some sealant. It's all bent out of shape I'm not sure if it was made that way or not. It doesn't look healthy but when I cleaned excess glue off and retightened down the bolt it seems to hold.

I also heard oil bubling when I put pressure in. This might have been due to the crappy pcv valve. But when I reassembled everything, it blew white smoke for about 2 mins when I first started it.

Yeah, probably from the PCV. The bubbling is at the turbo drain line.
