I don't know what JVC offers for this field but I do know Pioneer offers a P-bus connection. Maybe JVC has something like that. Dunno.

My pioneer comes with a port on the face to connect an ipod to it, so it might just be easier to buy a new head unit,.

well my pioneer has the aux input so I have my ipod, psp,or xm myfi running on it and it sounds way clearer than the fm transmitter

Or get an fm transmitter that uses the cigerate lighter instead of batteries it might work better

I have a 1984 El Camino and a 30G ipod and the belkin FM transmitter leaves much to be desired. I also have an older Pioneer deck. And so, I'm wondering what the best way to hardwire would be.

There are many ways to do this, the least popular is to use the radio transmitter. Does that HU have aux in, or satellite radio capabilities, if so you would be in luck. Look on jvc's website and see what they offer.
