Exhaust exit idea's

1999 4dr ls 4x4

I was thinking for a bit on changing the exhaust exit on my blazer. I have a flowmaster muffler on now,its ok. I was thinking about getting something a lil more deeper like a ravin or the z-flow i see people talking about. But i wanted something diff for the exit.

I was thinking about possily putting the exit between the leaf spring and frame in front of the tire on the passenger side. I had the driver side front tire up on a stump so i could tuck the pass rear tire to look for clearence w/ the leaf spring and it looks like it would work. But i thought there was some law or something in the great state of PA having and exhaust exit under the cab of the car or somthing

Or i though about putting it though the bottom fender behind the tire. Cutting a whole and putting it though the fender

I just want somthing different then the stock pipe or going stright out the back, I seen way to many blazer w/ stight out the back. It looks nice, but i like to step away from what others do

I just wanted to know what others thought about those ideas, or if i should just leave it alone. I have a week before i start working, i already painted 5 rooms of my house and my porch and i dont think my blazer can get any cleaner, im running out of things to do haha

I was once thinking of running dual exhaust, both exiting in front of the rear tires with my first gen.
I think that it would look good, as long as I got the right tips put on.

There are just too many cars with the exhaust exiting out the side for it to be illegal, although you might want to check it out in your state. The worst that I could see them asking for is the pipes sticking out 2" or so.

Sorry I don't know what muffler has the best sound, but I'd like to hear the before and after sound clip.

I think it would look real nice one side in front of the tire, get a nice looking 3" chrome tip just stickin out. My buddy had an aftermarket exhaust for his honda, and he wrecked it and i cut of the tip and i was playing w/ it, look at possible exits and in front of the tire looked preety good, I think dual out each side would to preety cool to, But theres something about making a 6cyl to dual that kinda sticks out at me, Maybe ill look in to out each side in front of the tire.

For muffler, i LOVE how the flowmaster when cold is very deep around 3000. I could drive all day with that there and be happy but it warms up in 100 yards and its kinda raspy to me. I think by shorting the exhuast to in front of the tire it may make it louder, but more raspy

The body aerodynamics of the Blazer creates a vacuum behind it. You do not want to stick a pipe straight out the back from under the bumper. Offset it to the side, curve it out behind or before the tire, but never straight back. The Vacuum will fill up with exhaust, and the body vents that allow for airflow from the cabin under the right circumstances can let exhaust into the interior. (Up to and below 20MPH, like when crawling through mud, rocks and sand) When I re-did mine, I had it offset to the right, just under the bumper and rear of the passenger side tire. No problems. So placing it anywhere in the fender through a cut-out (Fancy idea man! I want to see that!) with a flush-cut chromed tip I would love to see. Also anywhere to the side before or after the tire is totally okay. For a while, I pondered my welding machine, y-pipes and muffler/resonators just under the rocker panels myself with a 90 degree bend out to the sides. But then I would have a hapless roomate or my dopey friends burning thier calves on it, so I wimped out. :)

I got the idea from a "trucks" show on Spike TV. The guy put the exhaust though a simialr fender look on a truck. He used an oval exhast tip with a 1" polished braket that was bolted to the fender, and the tip went though it. It looked awesome the thing is it will be a lil hard w/ custom bending and cutting. Where if i go in front of the tire all i need in a 90 degree bent tube i can pick up at autozone and i done.

after looking at it i dont wanna sink to my time and money in to putting it though the fender, I will most likly just go w/ a 90 bend right off the muffler and send it out in front to the right tire.

My one question i have is, will it sound any differnt?? I dont want it to sound any more raspy then it does at times.

Keep the tail pipe after the muffler as short as opssible to keep it less raspy. I'm told that it's the tailpipe that gives it that noise, and wtaking that into account means that it'll probably sound more beefy

I crawled under today to look at what i need to do, it looks preety simple to just cut some of the tubing and slide the muffler back a lil bit and just slap on the 90 degree elbow and ill be set, But the hanger for the muffler is not gonna be in reach the muffler will be back to far, Any ideas on how i can hang the muffler?

Very nice job Eslhockey, it looks good.

I always thought that the exhaust would look sweet exiting out there, and you probably have a tiny bit more power, since it doesn't have to snake it's way around the differential now

I did notice at times when i would be in say 3rd gear and i would give it some gas most of the time it would drop to 2nd and go, but it stays in 3rd a lil bit longer now, So yea it does give it a lil more power. 1/2 way though welding w/ a tourch i ran out of O2 so i had to run down to Home Depot w/ only headers and a cat, The 4.3 sound like SHIT w/o a muffler It was sooooo loud and drove like crap I wanted to put that muffler back on real bad after that short drive

can any one help me out on how to but a movie clip on here?

What are the chances of a passenger burning themselves on it?

If you have a passenger riding under the Blazer, they deserve to get burned!!

Unless they are trying to not at all. i got in and out a few times out of the door trying to burn my self and the only way is if u really try to, theres no way to hit it just casually getting out of the back u feel a lil bit of fumes if u walk past it but nothing to worry about beside the back seats are for my dog, I dont usally take any one

Hopfully the vids will work

A few of my buddys brought that idea up to me i always kinda put dual exhaust on things w/ 8cyl not a 6cyl. i was looking at it, I wouldnt be able to do it so i would have to have someone custom do some pipes on it. i couldnt find a kit for my blazer. may be when i get bored of this ill try duals. I get bored easy, I have changed the LED's in my cluster to 3 differnt colors. But its a possiblity.

I don't think that duals will sound as nice, although it would look sweet with pipes sticking out both sides

I agree It would have the raspy sound i got away from but if id do dual it would have to be behine the tire. theres no room to snake the tubing on the passaenger side, Gas tanks in the way. I would may be then go for gold and but it though the fender on each side behind the tire. but im not worrying about it yet. I guess if this doesnt pass inspection these idea will come in handy

I wouldn't worry about the inspection. At least where I live they are only intrested in it exition out from the truck, which yours does.
The most that I can see them making you do is put a tip on that'll re-direct it backwards

Sounds pretty damn good.

I just put a maganflow i believe il have to duble check but it sound so much nicer than stock. Nice deep mellow tone at low rpma dn when you smack the throttle has a nice clean tone. I have it coming out right before the rear end on the passanger side, but its still turned down after under the truck. cant even see it unless you look for it, i like the stealth idea.

I double took on your videos man, your rig sounds like mine with the FloPro on it. I could never do a WOT around a turn, it will make the rear end break loose for a smoke show, but that drive-by video was awesome. Good sound, good work, IMO.

Yea i took it easy getting on the road then open it up, On that road i can usally chirp 2nd and i wanted to do that in front of the camera, but the tires were warm and it was hot out oh well. I wish i could have the back end get side ways on me, every time i take a turn on tire takes all the power. but thanks for the props
